Indeed.  Man, the controls in that game were so horrible I can't believe I actually put a fair number of hours into that port.

Super Mario 64 was designed for an analogue stick. Some games are designed for a D-pad, and wouldn't work very well with analogue. One such game is Tetris; it requires fast, precise movements that would be impossible using analogue input.
