Nintendo Registers European Trademark for WiiRelax
« on: December 19, 2009, 12:31:07 PM »
Another curious trademark is registered in PAL territories.

Nintendo has filed another interesting trademark, this time with The Trade Marks and Designs Registration Office of the European Union.  The December 17 filing is for something called "WiiRelax".

The product's classification in the application contains the typical all-encompassing video game verbage (features such as being able to play the game on a television, control it with a joystick, etc.), but it also reveals some other telling details.  It is submitted for classification in the same categories as devices with "pulse-measuring functions", and is further classified alongside "body-fat meters" and "pulsimeters".

The Wii Vitality Sensor was announced at this year's E3, but little has been said of it since, aside from vague confirmation of a 2010 release date in an interview with Cammie Dunaway.  Given the similarities between the functionality of the Vitality Sensor and the features described in this filing, it's likely that the first product to employ the device will be known as WiiRelax.

Thanks to BlackNMild2k1 from the NWR Forums for this news tip! In addition to the Talkback thread for this article, you can further discuss the Wii Vitality Sensor here.

So what's this going to be, similar to those "sounds of the ocean" CDs?

I'm guessing this will be like the candle mini game in Wii fit. Hold still for a certain amount of time.

I always thought that Snorlax sounded like the name of the only sleeping pill that is also a laxative.

Wiilax sounds like that feeling of relief you get when you pee if you were holding it in.

LOL. That would be a horrible combination of pills to take.

Do not take this pill unless you are able to commit to 8 hours of sleep..... on the toilet.

WiiRelax is like the sort of joke name one would come up when dissing non-gaming.  Can Nintendo make something that is less of a game than Wii Music?  We'll find out!

Snorlax sounds like something that is exclusively sold in joke shops.  It would be the ultimate spite pill to slip into the drinks of people you REALLY hate.

Come on guys, the proper name is WiiRelax.  WiiLax is the name used to describe the console's third-party support.
