Data East Arcade Classics
« on: December 04, 2009, 09:45:37 AM »
I didn't see this posted anywhere, but Data East is compiling 15 of their old arcade games into a collection for the Wii.  The game is set to release in the first part of next year and carries a price tag of $20.  Sounds like a steal if you ask me.

Here's the list of games:

BurgerTime, Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory (the rare sequel to Burger Time), Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja, Burnin' Rubber, Caveman Ninja, Crude Buster, Express Raider, Heavy Barrel, Lock ‘n' Chase, Magical Drop III, Secret Agent, Side Pocket, Street Hoop, Super Real Darwin and Wizard Fire

Not trying to date myself here, but I played almost all of these gamesin the arcade growing up and have many fond memories attached to them. The big one that I want from this list is Heavy Barrel. I played that game so much that I had memorized all the gun piece locations and when to grab a piece or skip it.  One of my all-time favorite gaming moments was telling my friend that I was going to be the entire game on one quarter, only to pull it off with one man.  Epic.

The other games that leap out to me are Magical Drop III (which I never got into in the arcades), BurgerTime, Lock 'N' Chase, and of course Bad Dudes.  Heck, I wrote a comic based on Bad Dudes.   ;D

As far as extra are concerned, the game offers up some neat stuff to keep players interested.  There are 75 goals (can you say achievements?) which will unlock music soundtracks, arcade cabinet artwork, and gallery items.  You can link your high scores to your Mii, although I don't see what that does.  Save, load, and pause the game at any point for making it easier to pick up and put down.  The game supports all four control types (Wiimote only, Wiimote + Nunchuk, Classic, and Gamecube).  Seriously, if one of the control types allows me to move my HeavyBarrel guy with one stick and control his waist with the other I'll bein nerd heaven.

The only thing that looks missing is online play and an online leaderboard.  Online play really doesn't suit these types of games, so it's exclusion isn't that big of a deal.  Not having a worldwide leaderboard is a shame though.

Finally, here's the official trailer for the game:

This was announced 3 months ago after the ESRB rated the game. http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=29295.msg547514#msg547514

As I mentioned in that thread, I am looking forward to the game (especially Burgertime).

That's what I get for not looking back further.  Sorry everyone.  On the plus side, I did add new information including the entire game list, so it's not all bad, right?  :D

The thread TJ Spyke linked to was a TalkBack thread; we needed a Nintendo Console Discussion thread.  :)

However, I'm going to repeat what I said originally.

Why do you want these on the VC?  It will COST MORE MONEY because you have to buy the games individually.  This is a BETTER DEAL.  Though if you're only interested in one title here it might not be but if you want like three of these games then it's a vastly better buy.

Because the only game I want to play is BAD DUDES.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

There are only a couple of games I have any interest in so this probably wouldn't be worth it to me. I'm not a fan of arcade games.
