The DSiWare version will deliver a cheaper version of the classic game's recent rebirth.

Taito announced the release of Space Invaders Extreme Z on DSiWare in Japan.

The title is actually a port of Space Invaders Extreme 2 minus some of the modes found in the retail release. The DSiWare version only has two modes: time attack and score attack.  These modes will have three levels of difficulty: beginner, normal and extreme.

Space Invaders Extreme Z is already available on Japan's DSiWare service for only 500 DSi Points. There is currently no word on a North American or European release.

Color me excited.  The games look interesting but since I'm not really huge on score attack I question how much longevity they will have for me.  A $5 downloadable title that's always with me sounds like a great fit for my needs.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Of course they announce it now. After I just broke down and bought the full DS game.  My initial thought was "I wonder if this'll work with the paddle..."

I'm going to say no... ;)
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.
