So having bought Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, despite the fact I have vocalized my dislike for the main entries in the franchise (I kind of liked KH2, kind of), it changes some things up from the main games but gives it a unique feel so it doesn’t feel like KH ver. DS. My impressions so far:
- The game’s cutscenes are a mix between FMV and in-game engine. In-game engine story sequences are told through text, with some voice blurbs. The FMV cutscenes are KHII quality, and are fully voiced. Voice acting is, so far, top notch in the FMVs.
- The game progresses through chapters, which are called “days”. Roxas starts on Day 7, and the tutorial last about five to six days by going through different elements like battle, exploration, and completing missions. Experience, Munny and Heart Points are totaled when a day is finished. The game starts picking up after the tutorial are over and done with. Missions important to the plot are dotted with a Keyblade. Side missions are not. Advancing days is optional.
- You can save only in Castle Oblivion. I find it a bit annoying.
- You are given to control types. Type A and B. Type B makes the L and R buttons camera control, but makes shortcut commands a chore since you have to hold both L and R to get to it. I found Type A to be reasonable.
More impressions on the way.
