Super Monkey Ball Step & Roll Revealed
« on: July 21, 2009, 06:42:48 PM »
AiAi and friends return to Wii in this Balance Board-compatible party game.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=19067

Sega recently unveiled Super Monkey Ball Step & Roll, the latest game in the Monkey Ball franchise, with  a teaser site.

The latest game in the franchise, which began in arcades and first hit consoles in 2001, will be a party game featuring Balance Board controls. A trailer has also been released, although it only shows series star AiAi playing with the Balance Board.

Super Monkey Ball Step & Roll is scheduled to come out in winter 2010.

My assumption is that winter 2010 could mean Jan-Feb 2010

Yeah, you're probably right, I assumed by winter they meant Q4.

The best part of the Gamecube monkey ball games were the mini games, but the Wii version's were lousy. Hope they do a bit better this time.

I am very happy to see this coming finally. It has been a while since the last one and I was worried they were going to let the series die.

Yeah, you're probably right, I assumed by winter they meant Q4.

I think in general Q4 is referred to as Holiday and Q1 is referred to as Winter, though that's not every case.

I'm hoping that they hone the mini games down to only a few compared to the 50+ in the last one. I wouldn't mind all of the ones from Monkey Ball 2 plus a few new ones.

I've been hoping for this.  I'm a huge fan of the ball rolling game from Wii Fit, and this seems like a great fit!

I've been wondering when this would come out.  Seemed like a given when they introduced the Balance Board.

I hope they go back to the formulas in SMB1/2.  I've got all of the other SMB games besides Touch and Go and none of them are any fun. :(

It seems they are not incorporating Wii Motion Plus yet. Oh well. I think it would work perfectly with the gyro and all.

Balance board controlled Monkey Ball sounds pretty awesome. I bet it's gonna be a real bitch to learn to control. I wonder if they'll change the camera to a fixed behind-the-back view, or at least have that as an option.

Now the question is will this exclusively use the Balance Board or will it merely be an option?

I would imagine it will be an option, but hopefully like how the Balance Board is an option in Shaun White Snowboarding.

If I recall correctly, at some point it was said that if a game requires the Balance Board, it has to be bundled with it. I don't think anyone besides Nintendo wants to do that.
That's actually funny to me, because I imagine Wii Fit Plus will be sold separately, but it's an expanded version of the same game, so I guess that makes sense.

I think there are enough Balance Boards out there that games could sell without them that require them. Not that this would mean Nintendo would allow it, I just think it is possible.

It's an either/or Remote/Board game.  Jumping was omitted.  Sounds like a back-to-basics project.

I agree.

I mean, why do you think Red Steel 2 is bundled with MotionPlus? The game requires its use. MotionPlus adds $10-20 to the game, a Balance Board bundle would make the game close to $100. I can see games being bundled with MotionPlus, not with the Balance Board. Also, the BB isn't sold separately either.

Which I still think is strange, especially considering the increasing amount of games which can use it.

It's CONFIRMED that Remote and Board are both supported.
