Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn disc problem?
« on: July 28, 2008, 10:32:03 PM »
I just got Fire Emblem:Radiant Dawn from an Ebay seller in Canada. I wanted to use the save file from Fire Emblem:POR, but for some reason, it locks up every time. I moved to another memory card, but to no avail.

However, when I start a new game sans save file, everything seems to be ok. I've just played played the prologue and chapter 1 with no issues.

Could this be a regional thing? Could my POR save file be corrupted?I have no way to verify that since I used a friend of a friend's copy of the POR disc, and have since returned it.  I remember some of my key characters died. Rhys the healer and Gatrie, the blue armored guy. They can't get stat bonuses if they're dead... could that be the issue? I doubt its a bad disc...

I'm not keen to returning it, since it took 10 business days from purchase to delivery. And while the save file issue bugs me, its not a deal breaker.   Any suggestions?

NO. I think this is cause by a Path of Radiance(The GameCube FE) save you might have on there. Is that possible?

If I remember correctly early batches of the game had a glitch if you tried to import your cube save.

Yep that's the right one. After some internet Matlocking, it turns out that PoR Easy saves tend to cause that glitch. And since I have a easy PoR save file... :'(

Can I call Nintendo to see if they'll replace the disc? Is that an option?

I think a better option is to be less weak and play the game on normal.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

So I finally got around to trying this game back when I picked it up a long time ago.  I had actually finished PoR prior and noticed the transfer option when I went to start a new game.  However, I ran into the same transfer glitch that's well known at this point - it occurs if you have any form of EASY save data on your GC Memory card.  After a couple of lockups, I dug up the info online and found out that replacement discs were offered to fix the problem.  Great, just contact Nintendo for one.

Well both the initial phone support and then email responses from Nintendo disavow ever having a replacement disk, even though I pointed them to numerous sources on the web and thread on their own site that had proof to the contrary.  The total denial is what troubled me the most in this situation.

Jason, a Nintendo tech support manager, called me back after I asked the normal reps to look into it.  He wasn't aware of the replacement option either.  However, he was at least cool enough to take off the denial hat and noted that Nintendo may simply not offer the disks any longer given that it's over a year old and the title in question wasn't that big of a seller.

Anyone coming across this thread who is in my same situation, sounds like we are out of luck.  There is one thought I had that may work if you know someone that has a working or repaired version of Radiant Dawn.  I suppose in theory, you would only need to borrow the working game briefly in order to start a new game and import the data.  I'd imagine it probably makes no difference which version of the game you use after that.  Just an untested thought though.  I'll update this post if I ever find a local with an updated disk.

I would just download an ISO of the fixed game somewhere and install the HB channel. You can do this legally since you own the game.
