Famitsu reveals Dragon Quest Wars, a strategy game developed by Intelligent Systems.

Famitsu recently revealed a new entry in the Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest Wars. Unlike the main entries of the series, Dragon Quest Wars is a mixture of a board game and a strategy game. It is being developed by Intelligent Systems, who are known for developing strategy games such as Fire Emblem and Advance Wars.

Players pick a team of four monsters from the Dragon Quest universe and battle the computer or other players locally or online. Battles are played on a grid and the goal is to knock out all the monsters on the opponent's team. The game supports up to four players, however only two players play at a time in an elimination style of gameplay.

Yuji Horii is serving as the supervisor for this title, Akira Toriyama returns as the character designer, and Koichi Sugiyama returns as the music composer for the title.

The game will be released some time in mid-June in Japan for 500 DSiPoints. There is currently no release date in North America.

Interesting move.  Can't really argue with this at only 500 DS Points.
There was a Signature here. It's gone now.

Strategy games like this are usually very big, in the sense that there is a lot of content.  They don't seem like the type of game to be offered as DSiWare.  So I'm wondering how will this turn out.  Is this going to be comparable to Advance Wars or Fire Emblem or will it be more scaled back?

I'd been considering buying a DSi in a few months but I needed to see good stuff on DSiWare; an Intelligent Systems-developed strategy game is definitely a start.

Not sure but for your content argument Swords and Soldiers takes 140 blocks on WiiWare, far below the 300 limit that most games reach.

Sounds to me like there's probably just the one chess/checkers-style board.

Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!
