Wind Waker Disc Error
« on: March 29, 2003, 09:49:48 AM »
I started up my copy of WW yesterday and I got a message I have never seen before in my life.  it was a disc error saying the disc could not be read.  i had no issues the entire time i had played the day before and my cube had not so much has been touched since then.  eventually after resetting and turning the power off it works but it definitely is not a cool situation.  i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with WW so I know if i should head back and get a second disc.

Probably either the disc is dirty or scratched, or you touched the lazer lense when you took out the disc last time (If you did take it out).  You can clean the lense and the game (Check the GameCube instruction booklet).

I've heard that some of the copies of the game have that same problem.  I would go ahead and return the copy for a new one.  Your new disc should work fine after that.
What's that smell?

um did you mod your cube, often modded cubes have disc problems.

Nope, my cube is not modded.  its a standerd as you can get.  i never touch the lens, im super careful with my discs as well.  the game worked fine the first day i had it and it has not been removed since.  so it definitely didnt get scratched that way, so im going to have to say it is the disc

I assume you tried it more than once?  I had a similar problem, I ran into the auction house and the game crapped out on me, but I restarted and it worked fine.  I have heard that some other games (namely Metroid Prime) don't work perfectly on older Cubes, but I don't know how true that is.
That's my opinion, not yours.

I found the source of the error and sad to say it was not my WW disc.  It was indeed my disc drive that got fried.  Guess the hours upon hours of Metroid and franshise mode in Madden 2002 wore it out too much to handle the play time of Zelda.  Its ok though, I bought a new Cube and my old one will be getting repaired in the future.

Damn dude.  I just had the same problem.  My disc drive died I guess from having it play Wind Waker 10+ hours a day non-stop since the game came out.  I've been letting all my friends play it.  Then I got MKA and damn...even more game time.
