Anyone else play this game yet?  The experience doesn't last long, but what's there is definitely worth the entrance fee.

I have it and it's really awesome. I just love how you start off in a barren colorless world and it comes to life and evolves.

I've been keeping an eye on this game for awhile and finally downloaded this game yesterday.  It's short but sweet and makes a nice screensaver! :P  It's nice seeing the PS3 get a non-FPS game for once.

I really like it. I do wish the freedom in the initial levels was maintained throughout though. It seems overly objective based later on, particularly level 5.

I wish there was a bonus mode after you beat it where you fly around and get in people's faces while they're riding bicycles.

Yes and a super bonus mode where after flying in their faces, you fly in their face and play an internal body level.  Awesome.

I just watched Gametrailer's review of it, and was about to make a thread about it.

When I watched this I was thinking of two things...

- If this was a WiiWare title, would it get highly praised and would be the jewel among WiiWare's crown or would it be mocked, ridiculed, and bashed because of the concept? Not to sound fanboyish but considering "Endless Ocean" got trashed because of its relaxing concept it wouldn't be surprised if this was bashed as well. And yet on PS3, its being praised as art...

- Speaking of art, its amazing how whenever someone mentions that games are worthless gamers get upset and say that it can be a form of expression. But if you read the comments on the review it gets bashed and called "gay". So you want games to be more than dumb entertainment, but bash those games that try to be different?

Though it does have a Meta score of 72 (same as Excite Truck) it does appear some outlets like LameSpot and LamePro game it exceedingly low scores.  Just another remember of why I stay away from there.

Why do you think people celebrated the magazine's demise despite the fact that many lost their jobs during a very bad recession period?

Anyways, what I am saying that is that Flower's concept sounds like something Nintendo would exploit on the Wii. But they would get bashed and ridiculed for it, and label the game for being another shallow game to attract casual gamers. Yet on the PS3, its a work of art.

Nothing against the game, mind you. Its a very annoying double standard.

Like I said, Endless Ocean featured a relaxed, experience based concept and it got bashed. "My Aquarium" on WiiWare got bashed for its "virtual pet" ideals, despite the cheap price of download. If Flower was on Wii it would be bashed and that bothers me.

I'd love to have Flower on Wii. I would get it if/when I get a PS3.

I think its only part of the market that bashes artsy games like Flower. A lot of people praise artsy games. I wouldn't consider Endless Ocean an artsy game though. It's pretty, but not artsy. I think the refusal to review EO stems from some traditional gaming journalists who wish to draw lines defining games. EO is more of a game than Brain Age, My Aquarium or the Personal Trainer series. You explore and have goals. There is a story as well if I understand EO correctly.

People who deny EO as a game never played it or played it less than me.

Let's not turn this thread into a the-world-hates-nintendo conspiracy theory.

I personally will be trying out Flower asap, but that probably won't be until after my Mario Power Tennis Wiimake review.  Come on Nintendo.. send it NOW! =P

Sony is doing SO MUCH right with PSN games it amazes me.  I think it's a really good example of the whole quality-over-quantity approach.  For me, just the downloadable games are worth the cost of admission on the system, which I know seems a little crazy.  I really need to "finish" Flow, as I don't think I've done all the forms yet and I know I haven't bought the expansion.

I have a question for the masses.  Do you think Flower would be as successful without the amazing visuals?  Don't get me wrong, that's not an "amazing visuals can't happen on the Wii" comment.  I'm just talking in general.

I think it's a perfect example if someone needed firepower for a "graphics do matter" argument.

Already happened and it's called Flow both are made by the same company and Flow practically plays like a 2d version of flower.

Flower is decent but I'm not sure what all the hype is about. It is a very simple game and I don't mean pick up and play simple but everything in pretty simple in design. You start out as one petal and move it (via the wind) to other flowers. More land is revealed as you get all or most of the flower petals to follow you. I really hate the invisible boarders (Or should I say WIND borders).

I was under the impression Flower was much more smooth flying / follow the path oriented, while flow is eat or be eaten.  I mean, I know they are similar, but that seems different enough to me.

If it were not for the visuals, I would not have purchased it.  It really ads a visceral element to the game, without them it would have been a bit "blah".

It's a game that you play and feel relaxed and such it's a pretty game it actually reminded me of endless ocean except flower is very linear, I also like the hidden story and theme of Flower. What I like about flower is that it is vastly different from the usual PS3 game.

Flower is not just a game, its transcendental digital zediitation.  After finishing the game, I learned a lot about myself, the world, and the entire universe.  It has led me to the realization that smoking banana peels is probably not a good idea after all.

Did anyone else learn anything?
