The Wing, debuting this October, will require a wireless dongle to be inserted into the Wii Remote for operation.

Nyko Technologies announced earlier this week that they will be releasing the Wing Wireless Classic Controller for the Wii in October for $29.99. Using a wireless dongle that plugs into the bottom of a Wii Remote, Nyko says that the Wing will have up to 10 feet of wireless range and up to 30 hours of playtime on two AAA batteries. It will also feature a USB port and cable to easily charge rechargeable batteries, though said batteries are not included.

An image of the Wing is included below, but for those who need a more tangible representation, you can download a Wing papercraft and construct it for exact proportions.

Nyko Technologies Announces the Wing Wireless Classic Controller for Nintendo Wii

First Wireless Solution Designed from the Ground Up for Classic-Style Wii Gaming

LOS ANGELES - September 2, 2008   Nyko Technologies®, the premier game console peripherals manufacturer, today revealed its new wireless controller design, the Wing™, for the popular Nintendo Wii™ game console system. Using Nyko’s wireless dongle system that conveniently plugs into the bottom of the Wii Remote™, the Wing eliminates the cord for games that require the Classic Controller.

With a sleek aesthetic, colorful appeal and an ergonomic design, the Wing incorporates utility with a refreshing look for a value unmatched by any other controller available on the market. Nyko’s wireless dongle plugs into the Wii Remote, providing up to 10 feet of wireless range and up to 30 hours of playtime on two AAA batteries. For the environmentally conscious, the Wing comes equipped with a USB port and cable for easy charging of rechargeable batteries (not included) and it boasts a rugged, durable build.

"As more and more games utilizing the classic controller scheme become available through the Virtual Console and WiiWare Channels, we wanted to offer a step up to what was currently available," said Chris Arbogast, Director of Marketing at Nyko Technologies. "With the new Wing controller, we’re providing gamers with old-school gaming compatibility, combined with modern ergonomics and wireless technology."

Nyko’s wireless Wing classic controller will be available in October for the suggested retail price of $29.99. Please visit www.nyko.com for more information.

I'll stick to the classic controller since I have no problem with that controller. 29.99 is too steep and 2 AAA battery requirement is a boneheaded move in my opinion.

Clearly they should have done a hybrid.  Solar power coupled with a 9 volt.

It should have been AA, like everything else in the world runs on, including the Wii remote itself. Oh well, Nyko already sold me on their Classic Controller Grip so I shouldn't get upset over something I'm not interested in.

Are you going to do the review yourself and spend half of it talking about how it's not as good as the Xbox 360 controller?

Ouch. You guys are getting brutal.
I can't say I blame you when the new business on RFN consisted of about a half hour plus of COD4

Wow, was this really necessary?  I won't be reviewing it since I already have two Classic Controllers.  I'll find somebody that doesn't have any.

Had this been some other company other than Nyko, I'd give it a look. I just can't trust them to make a solid product. Do like the color scheme though...

I actually think this is a cool idea, because the dangling Wii Remote is kind of annoying when lounging on the couch with Geometry Wars or a good RPG on Virtual Console.  I'm not too sure about the ergonomics of it, and of course I'd need some good reports on the build quality.

Tangential idea that just popped into my head: Bizarre needs to make a Geometry Wars spin-off for WiiWare.  A port of GW2 would be okay, but it depends a lot on persistent leader boards that probably aren't going to happen on Wii.

You know, CoD3 came out for Wii, and World at War is coming to Wii as well.  CoD4 and WaW are both on DS, too.  So I don't feel too guilty talking about Call of Duty of any sort on a Nintendo podcast.  I just think it's a shame that the best game in the series skipped over Wii.  Maybe I'd like to extol upon its virtues to rile up the Wii fanboys so they will demand a competent version of World at War and future games on Wii.

I wouldn't consolidate insanolord's animosity towards Silks JUST a result of his performance on the podcast.

I hope World at War turns out good on Wii, but it'll most likely be better on 360/PS3 because of stable online.
I've just been CoD4-ed out because I have a few friends that play it nonstop.

If you just want to have the remote not in your lap and a more ergonomic design you should look into the Nyko Classic Controller Grip. It's just some plastic that works with an existing Nintendo Classic Controller and holds the remote and makes the controller more comfortable to hold, especially when using the analog sticks. No extra batteries required, no trusting Nyko with something electronic.

I think Nyko makes some pretty good stuff, but their build quality is sketchy.  The first Wii Charge Station I bought just flat out didn't work.
