Connecting iPod Video Nano to TV to watch videos--HOW?
« on: August 31, 2008, 02:28:35 AM »
I did some google searches but the results are pretty old. I am wondering if the newest firmware has 'fixed' the cheap way to watch iPod movies on your TV.

The cheap way was to find a camcorder cable (1/8 inch audio plug with 3 bands to a red-white-yellow rca) and simplify connect and play.

I for the life of me couldn't find one that was cheap. I am not spending over $20 on a stupid cable for just this. The cheap ones I haven't seen anywhere, I went to Walmart, Circuit City, Target, Best Buy, Radio Shaq and the only ones they did have were offical apple or something at the price range of $30 or more.

I found some cables at a local place for $14.99 it was supposed to be for the "Zune" but it was just audio jack, and rca inputs. I tried it and the audio worked but video didn't.

So does THIS still work ? or did apple kill that with firmware update and forced use of the more expensive cables and connectors so people have to spend money.

I have a 4 gig Video Nano with the most up to date firmware.

lol fifty bucks

I don't have any iPods, but I wouldn't be surprised if a firmware update killed this functionality. The article is from 2005 so I'd certainly tread with caution.

yeah i'm aware of that but thats way to expensive for a CABLE. Also I want to use regular TV cables. I for the life of me can't find that damn cable.

This should do the trick. Don't ever buy any kind of cable in a store, unless it's a local store that sells at a decent price (there are 2 stores that sell 6' HDMI cables for $15 around here, as opposed to the $50 for the exact same cable in a big-name store). Always use eBay or monoprice for your A/V cable needs. ALWAYS.

it said "please connect video cable". I could get sound from those cables but video didn't want to work. I tried every combination of putting it in, so that is why I'm thinking this trick is no longer possible. I don't know. I rather not spend any money unless I know it will work.
