So, what's the deal with Fable?
« on: August 13, 2008, 06:35:57 PM »
I've been hearing a lot of hoopla over Fable II recently, and it looks quite good. However, there's one thing preventing me from trying it out, the first game's rep.

The original Fable was hyped as the best game ever with lots of groundbreaking features and innovative gameplay. It was going to be the XBOX's killer app.

But then I heard a lot of mixed reviews, saying that many of its promised features were not in the final game, that it was short and had some questionable moments (I've heard you can have sex with a guy... O.o).

So, what's the deal with Fable? Why is it so special yet maligned by some? Is it worth trying out?

It's a decent game, but as you mentioned, it got crapped on by many because it failed to accomplish much of what Molyneux said it would...The game is extremely linear in terms of exploration, combat was clumsy and perhaps a bit overcomplicated, and the whole aging aspect turned off some people as well...It's a fun romp, but don't expect the masterpiece that was promised... =)

Fable was a prequel to the under-rated Overlord.

I'd play The Lost Chapters on the PC instead. You have better graphics, better controls, as well as additional quests.

It was a good game, though certainly didn't meet the hype. Then again, what of Molyneux's titles do? The main problem I had with it was that it felt too linear, despite many interesting social dynamics. Also, it was VERY easy to complete. Really though, the game was fully worth playing and I had plenty of fun doing so.

The addition of co-op play in Fable II looks to be one of the better additions. I can't wait for it to hit the PC as well. Co-op games are always welcome.

Fable was a good game.  And i expect fable II to be even greater then the first one.  Although i didn't hear what happened with all the missing feature they were supposively were going to have in the first Fable.  But the first one is great and i really think the second is going to be great as well.
