MP3 Players
« on: May 21, 2003, 05:25:22 PM »
I have been searching the internet for MP3 players. The new Apple Ipod 15GB model has really caught my eye. It seems to improve on the existing Ipod's and has new features, but battery life seems to be an issue. I have also been looking in to the Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox Zen 2. I have heared mixed reviews about this though. The Ipod seems to be a quality MP3 player, but I would like to know what kind of MP3 players you guys own, and how they perform for you. I don't want to venture into the +$400 region, but anything under that shouldn't be an issue. Thanks in advance for the help that I'm sure you are to provide.

I like the archos jukebox pretty well. 20GBs and I have it hooked into my car, so it is all good.

i'm a Minidisc fan myself, but in terms of MP3 players, i like the iPod for hard drive-based players, and iRiver's iFP-195T for flash-based players. i like the simplicity of the iPod, and the newer models are very slim and easily PC compatible. The headphone amp is also more powerful than the originals. The iRiver is simply one of the best MP3 players i've ever used. It's got 512MB of onboard memory (you can't add anymore), an insanely detailed menu system, voice recording, etc. i didn't use the built-in FM tuner (or FM recording capabilities) much, but it seemed to work pretty well. It's not super cheap at roughly $300, but it's debatably the best flash unit to date.

Battery life seems to be an issue with MP3 players across the board -- one of the reason's i stick with MDs.

Considering he hasn't logged into the forums in two and a half years, I don't think it really matters either way.  ;)

I've seen a few guys on the bus with cassette players. You'd actually be surprised by how many people still buy CD players.

I only buy CDs unless it's one of those bands that has like one song that I enjoy, then I hit up iTunes.  Of course I haven't touched a portable CD player in years, unless you count my car stereo as "portable".

yeah its pointless to buy a cd for ONE song, it has to be a band or artist you enjoy to make you want to get the album. If then the one song is good and everything else sucks, you knwo never to buy stuff from that band again lol

.... So this is good for consumers then. Because artists want fans to buy albums not individual songs with large royalties.  No longer can a band sell a whole album on one hit. They have to actually make the the whole album enjoyable.

Thats kinda cool eh?

I use iTunes for artists I want to support. I'll actually buy the CD, if I'm excited enough about the artist(s)/album. Other than that. . .

well i rarely ever hear a new song i like on the radio or anything like that, because the radio pretty much sucks (and why pay for satelite radio that supposedly plays whatever they hell they want when i'll end up paying for an album anyway??). I'm never in the situation where i'll be like "ooh this song is good, i should download it" and thats it. i check out all their work at once by whatever means (torrents, having friends with torrents send me their songs) and if its really good i'll buy it my self. if not, DELETE. simple

I still buy albums, but partially because I'm OCD and like the way they look lined up on my shelf. Still use iTunes for B-sides and other rare tracks, though.

As to mp3 players, all I can say is don't get a Sansa. I had one; they suck. Ever since I started making decent money I've become a gadget whore, and so I've gone through a couple of iPods, and been really pleased with the level of polish Apple puts into them. In fact, making this post on my new iPhone.
