SP plastic's color if scratched?
« on: March 29, 2003, 12:05:59 PM »
I read the Game Boy Advance SP about how becasue the plastic is painted it can scratch easly. When it scratches does any one know what color the plastic is? if its a grayish color I would want to get the silver Sp but if its a darker plastic I would get the colbalt so that the scratches wouldn't stand out. Any one know Wat the base color is or whitch color hides the scratched the best?

Scratches wont affect your gameplay, so why worry about it.  Keep it in a case when your not using it, or carrying it around in your pocket.

Here's what I saw when I looked at some display models that had been ravaged by the crowds, and so got pretty scratched up:
  • Underneath the silver paint is a sort of milky-grey plastic; it's about the same darkness as silver (maybe a bit lighter), but stands out pretty clearly through scratches.
  • Underneath the blue paint is a somewhat darker greyish color, which is also fairly noticeable through scratches (I'm not as sure about this one, as it's been a while, but I clearly remember that the scratches were pretty obvious).
  • Underneath the black paint is black plastic.  Unlike the others, scratches are pretty hard to see on a black model.

I ended up getting black, not only for the scratch resistance, but because it's less distracting while playing (the blue and silver, while very pretty, are rather bright).

I'm in Japan.

I forgot that they're not selling the black SP in the U.S.  That's frankly kind of bizarre if you ask me, given Americans' penchant for black when it comes to electronics.  But then Nintendo's always been a bit wacky with regard to colors...

I scratched my blue one pretty good the other day and it's still blue all the way through so far...
