OMG a Wii Demo Disc!
« on: April 07, 2008, 01:44:00 PM »
Feel free to flame me if this is old, but this was quite shocking to me.

Hudson was kind enough to send NWR a demo disc of Deca Sports today (expect a preview to hit the site very soon)!  The enclosed letter describes that this can be played on any normal retail Wii.  It also came nicely shrink wrapped in a very official looking envelope.

It's pretty cool that they are doing this for press, but why aren't more companies jumping on this bandwagon for everyone else?  Nintendo would have had to green light the pressing of this disc in some form i would imagine.  Here's to hoping this is a sign of things to come.

No...Nintendo doesn't like options and things such as demo discs are a hassle. So this will be the last time you'll ever see something like this.

He's probably talking about the piece of cloth behind the disc. It looks to be the same material used on the Scarecrow's costume.

The highest I ever saw for a hand was 25 bucks.

So no...

The packaging of this game makes it look like a direct sequel to Wii Sports.  Is Nintendo cool with that?

I don't expect any demos to be released widespread in a logical fashion.  Nintendo doesn't do things conveniently.  They tell the customer what they want.  If the customer likes what the inflexible force feeding they're being given you get the Wii printing money.  If they don't you get the Gamecube collecting dust.

Nintendo hates demo discs because Sony thought of them first.  This will never change.

Is it really a "demo disc" if they only send it to the press? Seems more like a way to make sure the preview copy doesn't get resold.

All I know is that they don't usually go to this extent to make them look official.  The disc itself even looks ready for retail.

How far along is the game?  Is it a reviewable copy or does it distinctly state otherwise?

Well it's only 4 of the 10 games.  So it isn't reviewable by any means.

Of those 4, two are bad wii tennis rip offs, the third is just laughably awful, and the 4th is entertaining but hopefully it will have more "levels" before the actual game comes out.

Full impressions are in process still.  Stupid work makes it hard to get these out early, but expect them on the site by Saturday at the very latest.

Ian, All companies are like that in reality like how Microsoft forces people to pay for online play, they want to bring the Microsoft brand everywhere(which they are starting to do that now) and Sony being notorious with proprietary media and whenever they launch a new device they force people to use that format exclusively on that device.

what was Proprietary about CD or DVD? Sony had no stake in either of those.
