Wind Waker is killing me.
« on: March 30, 2003, 02:31:50 PM »
I have been playing the game pretty much non-stop since Wednesday morning.  I realized last night when a friend came over that my health is seriously in trouble.

1)  I can barely walk
2)  I have trouble getting comprehendible speech out of my mouth
3)  I don't have the strength to do much
4)  I seem to be on the verge of throwing up almost constantly.
5)  I am so tired I can barely keep my eyes open.

I think I am hungry, but I am not sure, as I am too malnourished and naseous to tell.  I am going to go make some tuna sandwiches, but I am not sure if I can keep them down.

To tell the truth, this gaming marathon has been going on longer than I expected.  Wind Waker is definately a good length.

Do I regret it?  Of course not.  This game is awesome.

ARGH!  I must get this game. . .

Supposedly I'm getting in tomorrow or the next day, but that's still too long.  Must. . . play. . .

Hope you get better, though

Heh...  I skipped school entirely.  I went to hand in an algorithm assignment, and I did my graphics assignment half assed in a couple of hours on Friday (we were supposed to code a simple flight sim.  I coded something... similar)  I didn't attend any lectures in that time.  I have been sleeping anywhere in the range of 2 to 5 hours per night since Wednesday.  That's a LOT less than I am used to.

But yeah, I am feeling a little better now.  I ate 4 tuna sandwiches.  I think I will walk to the store (if I can get there), and buy a non-caffeinated beverage with pennies I just got out of my change bucket.

Hostile Creation, if you are any Zelda fan at all, you will love this game.  It's DEFINATELY my favorite Zelda to date.

I'm glad I'm not in the same boat you are in, Grey Ninja. I had spring break this weak.

Unfortunately, this means my little marathon ends tonight. I start a new quarter tomorrow, and I'm a perfectionist that is devoted to quality work. In other words, I know when it's time to work and when it's time to play.

I'll still find time to play, but this next quarter features my next math course and my next programming course. I don't think I could tolerate half assing assignments... but Wind Waker is so good... I can't help but play and play and play.

Even more sad is the fact that I don't have anyone to share experiences with over instant messengers. I keep finding new hidden rooms with treasure chests and what-not. This game definitely goes the distance and feels like it may be years before I stop wanting to play. Nothing feels better than discovering a new hidden treasure.

I actually found time to just explore. That's all I've done today is traversed the massive sea, charting each island, and pulling up new treasures that I uncover.

I also have a couple of small questions that I just don't want to ask in the forums.

School tomorrow.

Heh.  I mapped all of the ocean yesterday.  I finally have most of the items needed to actually do stuff on most of the islands now though... so I am still just sailing around.  I figure I have about 2 or 3 dungeons left to finish, but they are actually fairly low on my list of priorities.  There's buried treasure to be found damnit!

I figured that I could hand in a half assed programming assignment this time around, considering that my previous assignments were far above and beyond the assignment specs.  I made it clear to the marker that it was a special case for this assignment, and quality would be back up for the next assignment.

You know I think this is the first Zelda game in which the overworld stuff is just as fun as the dungeons. In most Zelda games the most exciting part for me is the dungeons and it's the thing I always want to get to. That hasn't been the case with Wind Waker. It's not that I don't like the dungeons it's just that the overworld and dungeons are equally great.

Haha- I spent most of Satuday not doing anything useful. I did get about a third of the map charted, but otherwise I just screwed on Windfall Island and my personal cabana. Or really just sailing around- it's a lot more fun than I expected. I could theoretically finish the game today, but there's so much to do that I haven't done yet!

Maybe the U.S. government should add Zelda to their list of "banned substances"?  Seriously.  What fun is a game if you are too "hungover" to appreciate it?  Even while playing FF10, I went to bed at midnight and got up at 8am.  I got my sleep.  I ate my food.

You need to take a break.  The game's not going anywhere (as my mom would say).

Wind Waker's not killing me.  I first loaded the game on Saturday morning.  Watched the NASCAR race.  Then played some Dead or Nake...er, Alive 2: Hardcore.

Sunday morning I played constantly until 1, watched NASCAR, then watched the Simpsons and Doctor Who.

Today I surfed the net, watched the news, and at noon I'll boot up Wind Waker again.  I'm taking it easy with this Zelda game rather than kill myself.  Even with only ~15 hours in the game, I'm already at Dungeon #3.

Not to pick on you Theaveng, but it sounds like you haven't quite made it to the exploration point yet. I remember when I was at that point in the game I kept going from one dungeon to the next thinking, "Come on! Stop this! I'm getting tired of playing and going through the same process of dungeon clearing and boss fighting. I want to finally play! "

Now I'm at a point that seems quite complex. The ocean journeying can get in the way at times, I admit, but I'm very thankful for that ocean at certain points in the game. The task of journeying is always a hassle no matter what the map looks like when you're at one end and the place you want to go is at the other. This will not always be a problem later on, I think. I'm actually at a point where I can finally relax, explore, and focus on the world itself without rushing to complete the game. At the point I'm at now, I have to say I'm very satisfied with the story.

The anticipation is nauseating.  But I should get it tomorrow.  If not, Wal-mart's head is going to be nailed to my wall.

Me a Zelda fan?  That's like saying the Pope's a God fan.  Zelda is awesome. . . brilliant. . . I need this game!
