Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory Ships for Retail; Spring's Biggest and Best Game Available Nationwide by March 31

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 28, 2005--Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, today announced that Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory(TM) is shipping for retail this week and will be available at North American retailers everywhere by March 31st in slightly different iterations for the Xbox(R) video game system from Microsoft, PlayStation(R) 2 computer entertainment system, Nintendo GameCube(TM) and PC, as well as the N-Gage platform, published by Gameloft(R). One of this spring's most talked-about and best-reviewed titles (10/9.5/9.0 -- Electronic Gaming Monthly; 9.9 -- Official Xbox Magazine; 9.75/9.75 -- Game Informer Magazine; 5 out of 5 -- Official PlayStation Magazine), Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory delivers three amazing types of gaming experiences and stands as one of the biggest video games ever produced.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory includes a single-player campaign that follows gaming icon Sam Fisher on his latest mission to maintain world peace, a two-player co-op campaign that redefines collaborative gaming, and a completely updated Versus multiplayer campaign (which first appeared to critical acclaim in last year's Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow(TM)) and offers gamers complete immersion in modern stealth action and endless hours of replayability. The co-op mode is available for split-screen and online play for Xbox and online for PC; both the Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2 versions offer co-op play through offline split-screen only. The Versus mode is available for online play with Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC, and is not available on the Nintendo GameCube.

With Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Ubisoft's celebrated Montreal (single-player and co-op) and Annecy (Versus) development studios continue to push the interactive and technological possibilities of video gaming. The game boasts a totally open level design, a completely immersive and interactive environment, and advanced AI in which enemies are aware of their environment and remember past events, making them smarter and even more dangerous. In addition, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory delivers the best graphics in this generation of games. Based on stellar advance reviews from the gaming industry's leading publications, the features of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory features -- all courtesy of cutting-edge visual and sound technologies -- have set an industry benchmark once again.

"Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is definitely the biggest -- and, based on the incredible advance word of mouth, the best -- game that Ubisoft has ever created," said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing for Ubisoft. "From Sam's latest single-player mission to the incredible co-op and Versus multiplayer campaigns, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory melds innovative gameplay with the latest technology to deliver a completely immersive, endlessly thrilling experience that stands as a crowning achievement for the already legendary Splinter Cell franchise."

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory carries an ESRB rating of "M" (Mature) for Blood, Strong Language and Violence, with a suggested retail price of $49.99.

About Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory

The year is 2008. Citywide blackouts ... stock exchange sabotage ... electronic hijacking of national defense systems ... this is information warfare, which has become the most dangerous threat to global stability. To prevent these attacks, you must infiltrate deep into hostile territory and aggressively collect critical intelligence, closer than ever to enemy soldiers. You are Sam Fisher, the NSA's most elite black-ops agent. To achieve your mission you will operate undetected, kill at close range, attack with your combat knife, shoot with the modular SC-20K rifle and use radical suppression techniques such as the inverted neck snap. Work alone, or enjoy the thrill of cooperative multiplayer infiltration missions, where teamwork is the ultimate weapon.

As the enemy evolves, so must you.

-- EXCLUSIVE CLOSE-RANGE KILLS: From knife attacks to athletic hand-to-hand kills such as inverted neck snaps, dramatic ledge throws and other new moves.

-- CO-OP STEALTH: Play online or offline multiplayer with a friend and coordinate your infiltration in an all-new multiplayer challenge.

-- REAL WEAPONS OF TOMORROW: The most complete arsenal of weapons and gadgets from the knife to the modular SC-20K rifle.

-- AMAZING REPLAYABILITY: Totally open level design with multi-paths and optional secondary objectives.

-- AS GOOD AS REAL: Never-before-seen graphics technology offers the best visuals ever seen on any console. Advanced physics engine allows rag doll physics, particle effects and perfect interaction with the environment.

-- THRILLING SCENARIO: In-game gut-wrenching sequences and gripping plot with multiple twists and turns.

-- AWARD-WINNING VERSUS MODE: The universally acclaimed Spies v. Mercenaries mode from Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow makes a triumphant return with all-new gadgets, cooperative moves, humiliation moves and new multiplayer modes. Dynamic, evolving environments with elements like destructible walls and actionable triggers ensure that no two matches are ever the same.

"Totally open level design with multi-paths"

This is true, providing you own a souped up PC or an Xbox.  The PS2/GCN maps have been shrunk down.

What was wrong with Pandora Tomorrow?  I played it on PC and truly enjoyed it.  Granted, I didn't pay any attention to the story, and I didn't even try out the multiplayer, but the single-player was lots of fun.  And this is coming from someone who hated the first one (granted, I only played the demo on the GC, and spent much of the time wrestling with the controls and trying to find the damn ladder in the kitchen).

I don't like the Splinter Cell games myself, but it's nice to see Ubisoft releasing them for the Cube. Does anyone have sales figues for the previous two games across all platforms?

The third is different. They even take a stab at the one alarm and game over part in the game. The game is fantastic. I did buy it on xbox for its online but it should be a great game on all platforms. For those looking for a solid gaming experience I would really recommend picking up this title.

I actually heard bad things about the PS2 and GameCube versions.  Supposedly the levels had to be redesigned so they were broken up and all around smaller and blander.  If this is true, you're probably better off getting it for Xbox or PC.  And since the PC version retails for $40 instead of $50, it's probably the best choice.
