Something interesting about LoZ' over world map and Aol's
« on: March 25, 2003, 07:51:36 PM »
Now if you already know about this don't act like I'm stupid because I've known about it myself for years now. I just figured it would make an interesting topic. Hopefully.

To get to the point in AoL there is an area known as Death Mountain Area. If you go to the most southern part of this area you'll find something interesting. You should notice that there are three bodies of water, a graveyard, two rocks near the bottom of Death Mountain, and of course Death Mountain is to the north of this little area. Well this area bears a striking resemblance to LoZ's over world when you take into account the smaller size and the 8 bit graphics. Basically all of those land marks that I mentioned above are in the exact same position that they are in LoZ's over world. Something else that is interesting is that of those two rocks when you hit the one on the right with the hammer it will be destroyed allowing you to enter into a complicated maze. The interesting part is that in LoZ Spectacle Rock, specifically the right most rock, is the entrance to Ganon's dungeon. This leads me to believe that the small area south of Death Mountain in AoL is the same over world that is in LoZ.

If you want to look at maps for comparison click here and then click on the 5th pic towards the bottom. Then click here and go to the bottom of the page. You should see a link to the right that says Overworld Map. Click on it to see LoZ's over world map.

Nice.  I've always tried to tie the overworlds together in all the games.  WW got me really confused, though.  I guess I'm just a continuity freak!

Just a thought, but maby the plates in Hyrule move around faster than Earth's plates. Since each time you play as Link in a diffrent timeline some of the land forms could have moved around.

It seems pretty unlikely that all of the over world's in the Zelda games are alike, especially with A Link to the Past's and Ocarina of Time's. It would be cool if they were, somehow, identical.

I guess they just try to keep the key landmarks intact.

I thought you meant AOL (as in internet provider) and LoZ.  I had no idea what this would be.

Wind Waker has a few similarly-located places. (First and second dungeon islands anyone?)
