As some of you know rumors are saying that the Pokemon Lucario might be in the final Brawl roster. Nearly every "fake" list has Lucario on it and apparently fans want him almost as much as they wanted Deoxys in the roster. So, since he comes from a generation of Pokemon that I completely missed I decided to investigate all the hoolabaloo.
First, I did some research on the game character. He is indeed a rare Pokermon, one that you must jump through hoops just to get him. In order to get him you must first get a Riolu egg from a character. Then you must make it very happy during the day. Only then will he evolve into Lucario.
He isn't a legendary Pokemon. However, he is able to use an attack called "Aura sphere", an attack only legendary Pokemon can perform.
His existence in the Pokemon series is a normal one, one that can be easily missed if you aren't paying attention.
So, why are people putting Lucario as a possible brawler?
I then watched the movie "Lucario and the mystery of Mew" and figured out why.
The writers did a surprisingly good job of developing the character. His story is that in an ancient time he was the companion of a noble knight. His master taught him how to use the power of aura. In the movie Lucario is able to detect the aura of all living things by closing his eyes, an ability that is non existent in the games. He is also able to talk telepathically, much like Mewtwo did in the first movie.
In the eve of a massive battle the knight encased Lucario inside of a staff while he runs off to the tree of life in order to bring peace to the land. When Ash wins a battle and becomes the "hero" of the event, Lucario detects his aura and finds out that its very similar to the knight's aura, so he escapes the staff to find out that he is now in modern times, upset that his master "betrayed" him.
During a battle, Mew accidentally takes Meowth and Pikachu to the tree of beginning, so Ash and crew with the help of Lucario embark on a journey to save them as well as discover why the knight left Lucario behind.
This being a typical Pokemon movie, Lucario conveniently finds out why the knight left him behind and the water works begin. In the end, Lucario finds out that the knight sacrificed himself in order to bring peace to the land by using his aura and giving it to Mew and the tree of beginning. Lucario then decides to do the same in order to save everyone. He suffers the same fate as his master and disappears, reuniting Lucario with the knight. Yes, it is an implied Pokemon death, the second in the series.
There you go, that's the reason why rumors of Lucario being in Brawl have appeared recently. If he's in the Brawl it will be for the same reason that Jigglypuff and Pichu were in SSB and Melee respectively; the anime creators did a good job of giving character to a Pokemon who's nearly hard to find in the actual games and gave him a solid story and character development.
After watching the movie I would actually welcome Lucario to the roster. I personally enjoyed his story and would rival Mewtwo in terms of "coolness". In fact, if Lucario's decent enough I could end up using him a lot!
My only concern is that his aura blast would be very similar to Mewtwo's shadow ball move. Both moves work the same way, and I doubt Sakurai would use his aura based attacks from the movie since they don't exist at all in the game. However, since Lucario is a fighting and steel type Pokemon the Brawl team can borrow a lot of moves in order to create his moveset.
Oh, I am still taking the news with a grain of salt. Lucario seems popular enough that he could make an appearance, but he might be a Pokeball Pokemon. So I'm not getting my hopes up and waiting for the final roster to be revealed.
So, those are my thoughts on this "potential Brawler".
