Fuel cells are like batteries for large-scale applications. You still recharge them normally unless you carry gas bottles filled with hydrogen and oxygen with you.

My DS lasts about 5 hours on one charge. Been like that from the start and from what I heard it's the normal battery life for a regular DS. Mashiro, I bet you have a Lite because a regular DS never got close to even 10 hours, no matter who you ask.

I've got a regular launch DS and no, 5 hours isn't normal.

But guess what, the DS' battery is replaceable!!!

Batteries do wear out over time. I've a digital camera with a rechargeable battery from 2001 that only holds a charge for about 5 minutes... no joke! I only am able to tolerate it because I keep it on the charging cradle until I use it, and I don't take it on long trips or anything. I suppose I could get a replacement....

Anyways, Kairon is right. There is a panel on the back of the DS where I presume the battery can be removed and replaced when it dies....
is your sanity...

My DSphat's battery only lasts 5-6 hours as well.  And that's with no wifi.  With wifi, it only gets 3-4.  I thought that was normal...  It's always been like that.

Yeah 5-6 hrs is definately not normal. In fact the DS Lite with the brightness level set on level 3 (I think it is 3) will supposedly make the battery last about the same amount of time as the DS Phat and that is 10 hrs or so.

Same, it has been on the decline as well as it used to last much, much longer. I got mine on launch day, though, and have plugged a lot of hours into it (300+ in Diamond alone...) so I'm not too surprised that the battery is taking a beating.

More of an excuse to get a Lite someday, I suppose.

*ahem*

You can easily replace the DS' battery with any first party or third party solution. Just unscrew, replace, rescrew.

Unfortunatly, you lose internal settings like the DS's name, birthdate, time, date, etc...

Anyone know if you lose your WiFi settings as well?

I will not buy a different DS until they become more ergonomic like the original GBA was.

I read a rumor that Nintendo will be announcing yet another DS model at E3 which is supposedly bigger than the Lite and with larger screens. This is apparently a response to all the old people who complained that they're having a hard time with Brain Age because they're so old and near-blind. Gotta keep tapping that non-gamer market, I guess.

I'd consider buying it though more so if Ring of Fates is awesome.

That might be something I could take an interest in.  Maybe they'll use an LED screen that takes less power and glass on the touch screen like on the iPhone because its generally more durable.

Was the LED thing with the PSP Slim a typo? I remember reading somewhere that it was...

Oh yeah, it was a mistake.

Would an LED be expensive? I always thought that a stated advantage for LEDs was that they were cheap?

In this application they would be expensive because the other forms of screens with the needed resolution are massed produced more.

Be quite you.  If the make it for an older crowd they might make it more ergonomic as well.

LEDs are cheap, but wouldn't an LED screen have to have each pixel be its own LED? Each one would not cost a lot, but how many pixels and LEDs would it take to complete a screen?

I still use the original launch DS. I charge it once every 3 to 5 weeks (depending on much it gets used) and over the course of that time, I'd say it averages 8 to 10 hours of play before the power light turns red.

Rhoq: Same here.

Chozo Ghost:  I think one version replaces the backlight of the screen from flourescent to led and if you did do a color led for each pixel you need at least 3 per pixel to account for each color currently shown. So the DS screen is 256 x 192, I don't get the 192, 49,152 pixels per screen.  98,304 pixels total so that means 294,912 leds if it takes 3 per pixel.  Though I haven't found good middle ground documentation on how that all works for the newer led display they are putting into computers.
