Food of the week #2: Beef Stroganoff
« on: June 12, 2007, 06:10:52 PM »
MMMmmm  I love beef stroganoff.  Very tasty.  The beef, the noodles, the...stroganoff, or whatever else is in there.  Probably the only kind I have had is from Hamburger Helper, but it's good, nonetheless.  Talk about your experience with the strogmeister here.

Cheater, no ideas for hot pockets so you try to broaden the criteria and hope nobody notices.  This stroganoff smells like bologna.

Beef is too expensive to waste in Hamburger Helper.

Nominations for the weekly Hot Pocket:
Pepperoni Pizza - the all-time most popular.
Ham & Cheese - the least creative.
Philadelphia Cheese Steak - my favorite, particularly in the Croissant Pocket variety.

I found something better than Hot Pockets. They are those frozen Deli-Style sandwiches that you might find right next to them in the frozen section of your local supermarket(mine is a Safeway). They taste better, have more filling and cost exactly the same.

Having said that though, the Hot Pocket Calzones and Pot Pies are pretty good too.

I love these frozen grilled chicken sandwiches, you just defrost then for a minute then cook them for a minute and they are good to go.  It comes with the bun. Comes in two to a box.

I miss Safeway (for their cole slaw), all we have here is Food Lion (for mega store) and a smaller grocery that is actually has quite a big selection, Hall's (their fried chicken is the best).

Alright, so maybe I might have changed my mind about what food is covered.  I just figured Hot Pockets can only go so far, and it was time for a change.  I know this is what people really wanted anyways.

Now, I just realized that I've had Beef Stroganoff somewhere else, besides from the Hamburger Helper box, but I can't recall where.  I get the feeling it was at a big buffet at somewhere like Disney World, or perhaps on the one cruise I've been on, but it wasn't very good, but compared to the other food available, it was the best selection.  Anyone else have non-Hamburger Helper Beef Stroganoff?

They also make an easy-mac like version, too, which is alright, but if you make it wrong, it's absolutely terrible.

My mom made it a few times.  I question the authenticity, however.

To me, Stroganoff will always be the cow's answer to Chicken and Dumplings.
