Of GameCubes, Microphones and Dance Pads.
« on: June 19, 2007, 03:11:59 AM »
The other day, Amazon had the game "Karaoke Revolution Party" for the GameCube on sale for $11.99.  Since my wife likes to (and actually can) sing and it came with a microphone (although I already have one) for the GameCube, I decided to go ahead and grab it.

Well, I got it in the mail yesterday and I made two discoveries of things I didn't know before.

First, it uses the Dance Pad (or, "Action Pad", if you will) from DDR:Mario Mix.  I never knew that.  Guess the GCN has three dance games.
I haven't played with it at all yet (I probably won't, really, since I cannot sing *at all*.), so I don't know if it allows for you to *just* dance, or if you *have* to sing and dance in order to use the dance pad.

Second, the microphone that comes with this game is slightly different.  Where the mics that came with Odama and the two Mario Party games were grey with a black cord and a blue button, this mic is all black except for the blue button.  It's neat-o

Ah ha.  I'll already had this games.  What is the third game that uses the Dance Pad I thought I had them all?

I'm not entierly certian the "Action Pad" will work on it since the pad it comes with has 8 step arrows, but the third game is the MC Groove Dance Party... that one made by MadCatz that's supposed to be really, really bad.

Ah, ok.  I think it has a custom pad only because it was release so much earlier.

That pad that it comes with works on DDR:Mario Mix.  I assume it'd work with KRP as well.  I picked one up cheap at Best Buy that was apparently returned without the game (or, perhaps, the game was stolen), so the pad was under $10...

I just looked about and saw that MCGDC only uses the extra arrow buttons for one mode (which, apparently, sucks badly) and for the rest of the modes, it works just like the Action Pad does.

As for mapping the arrow keys, isn't that what the official Action Pad does?  That's why it lets me use the Action Pad to play other games (Super Mario Bros through the Game Boy Player, for example...)

Yep.
Same with regular DDR games as well.

I'm glad it does.  Nothing like trying to play SMB with the Action Pad.  Something I wanted to do since the NES Power Pad days.

lol.  I tried to do similar but not with VC games... Hmmm...  Actually considering how the MadCatz pad maps its probably better for it.

The "Sing & Dance" mode is pretty difficult. It's hard to focus on two things at once.

I tried it once and never again. But I'm not a DDR fan, so if people enjoy DDR, they might get a kick out of this.
