 EA’s Medal of Honor Vanguard Ships to Store Shelves

Acclaimed World War II First Person Shooter Franchise Debuts on Wii Platform

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS) announced that Medal of Honor Vanguardâ„¢, the latest installment from EA’s critically-acclaimed Medal of Honorâ„¢ franchise, which has been credited with pioneering the First-Person Shooter (FPS) WWII genre when it debuted in 1999, has shipped to store shelves nationwide. Built on the key tenets of the franchise, including historical accuracy and authenticity, Medal of Honor Vanguard is available for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system with an MSRP of $39.99, as well as the Nintendo Wiiâ„¢ with an MSRP of $49.99.

As the first game in the Medal of Honor series to be released on the Nintendo Wii platform, players can expect Medal of Honor Vanguard to take full advantage of Wii’s one-of-a-kind controllers. Step into the boots of Frank Keegan, Corporal of the 82nd Airborne Division, and engage in battles throughout Europe. From Operation Husky on the shores of Sicily to Operation Varsity inside Nazi Germany, you’ll fight behind enemy lines in the epic WWII battles that turned America’s first paratroopers into heroes of WWII. Featuring spectacular graphics that add to the epic combat intensity, Medal of Honor Vanguard makes you the driving force in the struggle to liberate Europe.

“Medal of Honor Vanguard really takes players back to the classic MOH gameplay experience," explained Matt Sentell, Senior Producer at EALA. “We are really excited to offer this game both on the PlayStation 2 console as well as the Nintendo Wii which promises to allow fans to experience MOH in a completely new way."

Developed by EA Los Angeles (EALA) under the EA™ brand, Medal of Honor Vanguard has been rated ‘T’ for Teen. For more information on Medal of Honor Vanguard and the Medal of Honor franchise, please visit: www.mohvanguard.ea.com.

I will be renting this.

I think I may be buying this. Have to finish Splinter Cell: Double Agent first though.

I need to see reviews comparing the Wii version to the one for PS2 (which will also retail for $10 less - $39.99). It's going to come down to whether or not the controls add anything to the game, or hinder it in any way. If the Wii version doesn't benefit in terms of the controller set-up, I'll alert my Medal Of Honor loving best friend to save himself $10 and buy it for his PS2 instead.

Seriously?

For me, the Wii's controls are the difference between this game being playable and completely unplayable.

After the pointer, I am NEVER using an analogue stick to aim a targeting reticle ever again. It's just so cumbersome by comparison that I would hate it (I already did hate it previously, I'll hate it twice as much now that I've used the Wiimote for aiming).

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Absolutely. The Wii's controls are going to be a "make it or break it" for a game like MOH. If reviews indicate that the Wii's control set-up either don't add to the experience or hinder gameplay in any way, there would be no reason to spend $50 on a game that could be had for $40 on the PS2.

Apparently a lot.  There's another MOH on the way, Brothers in Arms, and Midway decided to jump in and start a series too (although that's not planned for Wii yet).

I'm thinking of getting this game because at least it has some multiplayer, even if it is split-screen I don't really care, 50" ftw!

Based on the reviews IGN gave both the Wii and PS2 version my friend decided to wait a few weeks and see what kind of buzz both versions get from people who have bought the game for either system (he doesn't visit gaming forums, but knows I'll keep my eyees open for him). In the mean-time, he went ahead an picked-up The Godfather: Blackhand Edition since I brought it over to his house yesterday and he couldn't stop playing it. He ended up playing it for 5 hours straight, so buying it was kind of inevitable.

Just port Company of Heroes and call it a day. No WW2 games are necessary after CoH. Well, it may be a bit too next-gen for the Wii to handle but the controller should mostly work.
