I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there. There is no badge of honor, it's more like Nintendo is the fat kid on a school yard who didn't get picked to play kickball. GTA or any other majorly popular game, regardless of content, that comes to your system is a blessing. Like Majora states above, there is a significant chain of events that occur as a result of bringing on a GTA game.

It is elitist BS like this statement that keeps the Nintendo fanboy image in people's minds. Our system is not "too good" for a GTA game, that is flat out arrogance.

Frankly, I fail to see how being appalled by the general skankiness of the GTA series counts as "elitist BS."  I wouldn't touch the series with a ten foot pole, even if it had been a Nintendo exclusive all along (if it were, though, I probably wouldn't consider myself a Nintendo fan).  Having a moral objection to a video game doesn't make you "arrogant."  It's not like I'm bashing people that like GTA, after all.  

And you know, I really don't think that bringing on GTA would put a nail in the coffin of people thinking that Nintendo is childish.  I mean, people thought the same thing would happen when Mortal Kombat II for the SNES featured blood and guts, and then thought it all over again when Resident Evil 2 was released on the N64.  And then yet again with the Cube-exclusive Eternal Darkness.  Didn't happen.  Folks can keep thinking that GTA will be the one to turn around a 10+ year trend of Nintendo being for the kiddos, but I have my doubts.

I think the Wii itself largely already did that.

I haven't met anyone who doesn't like Wii Sports or, more to the point, looks at it and thinks it's for children. There's something about showing someone their own likeness on screen which transcends the question of age-appropriation.

Well, it's not going to be any one game that turns around this image. Nintendo's going to need a slew of adult-oriented titles (and maybe one first party offering) to turn around the "just for kiddos" image. Having GTA alone won't do that (just like Manhunt 2 alone won't do it either), but they would be good starts, and shunning either of the titles would a do a lot more towards re-establishing that kiddie image than having them on the console would do to abolish it.

They day having an adult-oriented title announced for a Nintendo console stops being a "big deal" will be the day that perception is gone.

We talk about it cuz someone, somewhere mentions that word on the internet for the sake of discussion, even when there may be nothing going on that day to create the necessary impulse to bother identifying it as an issue.
