GameCube will turn on for about 3 sec. and then turns off.

My gamecube will turn on for about 3 sec. and then turns off.  What is going on?  Any feed back will be appreciate.  I got it used so I dont have the warranty so does this mean Im screwed.

When does it do this? Just randomly? Or is this when you press the power button?  This may be as simple as a sticky power button, or as difficult as shot circuit.
