If I ruled the world...

http://www.crunchgear.com/2007/11/15/video-people-tetris-other-video-games-should-bring-tears-to-your-eyes/

I'd force random people to perform stuff like this for me all the time.  Failure would result in death. And not the good kind.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

UncleBob just found out about this? Wow. Actually I'm surprised nobody else mentioned it in these forums, I could've like 2 weeks ago but why bother...that video gave me goosebumps at how cool that performance was.

its is a little late, but it would've been a much better video if it was filmed from the HOME side of the field.

OMG. that makes the marching band geek in me happy!  Seriously though, you have no idea how difficult it is to get a large number of people into a straight line. (LINE UP DAMMIT!!!).  However, making those geometric shapes look perfect was probably the hardest part (the triforce was amazing) other than that, it didnt look too difficult to pull off, especially for college level.  Still very cool, and I wish we had a drill writer like that. (FYI I only went to high school level SAXES RULE)

Marching band members are such nerds.
“...there are those who would...say, '...If I could just not have to work everyday...that would be the most wonderful life in the world.' They don't know life. Because what makes life mean something is purpose.  The battle. The struggle.  Even if you don't win it.” - Richard M. Nixon

Actually, if I ruled the world, I would be busy engineering wars between my people, or 'little playthings', as I'd call them.

I would establish peace by building infrastructure. Blue ocean theory works in building cities. You effectively distract people from war if they are constantly bombarded by new and good things.

They tried that before. A nation stopped expanding and worked on increasing their own luxuries. You know what happened?

Rome fell.

Actually the idea would be to do it in the poorest areas rather than in a centralized fashion. The reason there are so many hungry children in Africa is because they go to the river with big bowls to get their water. In Ethiopia they eat Injera a type of flat bread(delicious...i love Ethiopian food) anyhow apparently making the bread the traditional way is a tremendous waste of resources.

What needs to be done in Africa/other poor places
1 build Several large pan continental canals
-how  to do it
-get several thousand shovels, and several thousand workers
-buy lots of bulldozers
- do not canal off of rivers or lakes, canal off the ocean only
-build an estuary to naturally clean the water
-no dams

2 build large desalination plants
-have companies/governments invest

3 build large water towers in every town or near every town
-in the old west when the united states was being settled, they either had to canal to a major water source, there is no need to waste good time going to the river with jugs or bowls to fetch water, this time can be used to be building other infrastructures

4 build greehouses
-alot of the problem with famine in africa is because they let the weater dictate their food, bad idea, nature is harsh and unpredictable, to protect the food supply is to protect the people. Locust can't get inside a greenhouse.

5 community centers
-the average African is poor, and cannot afford to buy fluff or non-necessities, by communally owning certain things, money can be saved and not wasted. The community center could double as a school.

6 new housing.
-with populations booming, housing has to boom as well. Apartment style buildings can house hunndreds of people.

This all requires a great deal of money im sure your all aware, however an initial investment may yield greater results.
The first fold is the water distribution plan, the second is the food, the third is the community improvement.

But I stick by Niccolo Machiavelli's belief that a leader should be feared, not loved. Naturally, hared should be avoided. That only leads to revolutions. But just enough fear to be respected and let people know not to cross you, and you have little to fear.

Please explain how one equals the other. Does it have something to do with the bread you mentioned later?

Injera is a delicious flat bread, it is made with a specific grain. It is raised and fermented a bit like sour dough. Then it is cooked in a special stove. This stove is grossly inefficient, it requires a ridiculous amount of resources to run. So what happens is the people in Ethiopia have to spend a load of time looking for kindling to power these stoves, then when they cook it eats them right up. The amount of effort it takes to make this food is greater than its nutritional allotment. The bread is cooked kind of like a crepe. There are newer electric stoves which are more energy efficient, but electricity isn't the most available resource in the area.

Getting water from rivers is also problematic. First troves of people have to take water from the river, then they have to boil the water due to parasites. This is all time consuming. If their not going to have running water in their town then they might as well have a water tower. All the water for months is gathered up and stored saving precious time.

If anyone has heard of the story of the ant and the grasshopper. It pretty much some up the situation. Those people live for the day with no planning. This ultimately makes their life even harder. If they would plan and prepare then they would be better of when dealing with future adversities.

Producing food is hard work, you shouldn't be wasting your time on things that you mustn't be wasting your time on.

They have guns and modern things like television, but ultimately they're living 90% less technologically then the ancient Greeks.
