Okami and No More Heroes
« on: January 15, 2007, 04:15:00 PM »
I was looking at footege of Okami (IGN's game of the year) and it's graphic style reminded me a lot of the style No more heroes has (the look in the screenshots that arn't in the trailer) and it got me thinking that there really similar.  Granted there hasn't been any video of NMH's new style but I think it has the same kind of look.  And also NMH is being desighned by Suda 51 and after playing Killer 7 I know that if this guy makes anything it will be compleatly original and inovative which is what Okami was praised for (mainly originality).

So I got thinking, could No More Heroes be the next Okami?  Could it be the next extreamly stylish game that just kicks ass?  Could it take from GTA what Okami took from Zelda and improve on the idea to make it into something that players will realy cherish and see as something really special?  Or am I just bitter about anything like Okami ever coming to a Nintendo system that doesn't have link in it.

IGN picked Okami over Zelda? Without having read the article, that doesn't make much sense, but I digress.

I think what you described is a best case scenario. It certainly is possible, but not necessarily a sure thing. The similarities the two games only go as deep as what you mentioned. They aren't being made by the same developer, they aren't the same type of game, NMH won't be filled to the brim with Japanese mythology, the mood of the games will likely be different, etc. With that being said, NMH stands with Nintendo's big 1st party games as the ones I am anticipating most for the Wii. I would love if your thoughts and predictions came to pass.

Replace OKAMI with KILLER 7. Why even discuss Okami here, this isn't IGN, and it's never coming to Wii. Capcom, the new Sega.

Funny how stylish games aren't praised as much as they ought to be.

Killer7 didn't sell well, Okami wasn't enough for Capcom to keep the studio, and while Wind Waker was probably a big GameCube hit, it received a lot of flak when its look was initially revealed.

There might be other reasons why the world didn't fall in love with those titles right away (Killer7's mature content and expectations for what the GameCube Zelda game would've been like come to mind), but somehow I doubt that No More Heroes will be a huge hit, either.

I'm not saying the game won't be good, it's just that people still don't understand that good graphics can be good because they're stylish, as opposed to realistic.  That's why there are way too many WWII shooters...because people keep buying them.

Hmm, regarding IGN's logic, have any of you read their Okami review? In the very beginning, they say something like, "As good as Zelda? No..." and then they give it game of the year over zelda. Huh?

On topic, I've got high hopes for this one... I really liked Killer 7 (it survived the culling of my Gamecube herd when I transferred over to Wii), and I hope it can live up to the same way-out-there, deep-story game that Killer 7 was. From the story so far, it's shaping up to be typically crazy. We'll see how it turns out. It's definitely on my radar.

Yeah Killer 7 was a great game that deserved more attention.

Hopefully No More Heroes will have the same sort of surreal weirdness.
