PAL Virtual Console Games Available
« on: December 02, 2006, 05:15:01 AM »
Anywhere from three to nine games, depending on country.

Virtual Console games for countries in PAL regions are now available, though the Wii itself will not be launched until next week.  Interestingly, games are being released by country rather than region.

The TurboGrafx system never made it to Australia and New Zealand, and those countries will again not receive TurboGrafx games.  Their initial Virtual Console selection is limited to three NES choices, Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., and Wario's Woods.

The European countries of Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain get those three NES games as well as three TurboGrafx games, Bomberman '93, Bonk's Adventure, and Super Star Soldier.

Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Norway, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, and Switzerland are a little luckier with an additional three games available.  They can also purchase The Legend of Zelda for NES, and Dungeon Explorer and Victory Run for TurboGrafx.

More games and countries may be added before the Australian and European launches, which occur on December 7th and 8th, respectively.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Someone should try chaning their "country" setting on their US model Wii to Japan or Europe. And see if you can download different VC games that way... (I'm not opening my Wii till xmas day).

American consoles only have American countries, so that's not possible (believe me, you would have heard about it if it was possible).

I feel for Europe and especially Australia.  Why oh Why can't they just keep there word and let us connect to other countries servers...

This frustrates me, Nintendo have a fantastic plan for releasing old games but through their own actions they limit its effectiveness and scope. I don't understand...

Again? Its just a constant series of misery and mediocrity with NAL at least. You just kind of ignore it and try to move on, because talking about the situation just brings on more pain.

I'd love to get access to the other games from the US and Japan, but it seems like an impossible dream when you look at publishing issues, regional lockouts, and all that other legal stuff.

The PAL territories are slightly different to the NTSC regions.  For one all PAL released games will work on any PAL system.  I have imported hard to find games in Australia from the UK without any hassles.  All PAL games are in English (with the usual options of German, Spanish, French etc).  Why Nintendo Australia and Nintendo Europe are not partnering in regards to the VC is beyond me.  They are missing a good opportunity.  Unlike America and Japan who have the obvious language barrier and are culturally very different.

Oh well lets see if Nintendo Australia will bring the TurboGrafx in the future once all the launch bugs are ironed out.
