Wow, Joystiq sure does bring out the raving Nintendo fanboy in everyone. Yes, how DARE he bash a game that most people who are attacking him haven't even played yet?

Honestly, I think people need to calm down. He said in the review that this wasn't his final review of the game, and that he had more good things to say about the game than bad. And the very fact that color palette and unreadable signs are the only things he could find wrong with the game so far are, to me, a compliment to Nintendo and the game. Heck, SOMEBODY had to play the devil's advocate.

And hell, I prefer somebody be honest about the game and point out its flaws (however minor) despite the dangerous fanboys, than do nothing but ramble on and on about how great the game is until the hype dies down and some people come to their senses and say "Well, ok, maybe I didn't like that part so much..."

Having played the game for a good six or seven hours now, the "brown" argument is rather ridiculous.  There are plenty of colors to go around.  Link's green outfit is more of a leathery green as you've all seen, but that's not the only element in the game.  The day to night transitions create some very nice oversaturated oranges and gloomy blue tones throughout the game world.  There are some enemies that are very bright red. Hyrule castle is mostly gray, spirits are green, etc.  Like someone else said, if you want to see a real monochromatic color scheme, look at Gears of War (and it's served quite well by it).

As far as criticizing the game for looking like a GameCube game, they suck.  Polygon counts and texture details aside, this is one of the most beautiful and living environments ever in a game.  Tons of subtle animations and unique details everywhere.  Oblivion may use a better rendering engine, but it looks sterile in comparison.

Signs are the same as always.  Unless you're playing an HD or PC game, I can't imagine how much text you could actually fit on one of the signs.  You don't need to read most of them anyways.

Believe me, I am done with Joystiq all together. I got tired of their "attitude" when posting news. True, they were also harsh towards Sony, but even then, the act gets old. Even IGN has some integrity when posting reviews and news stories.

The funny thing? I wasn't going to post anything else from Joystiq, especially after I posted about the ad, but I saw this and thought it deserved being bashed on PGC.

Believe me when I say that they are being negative for the hell of it. So yeah, I am done with the website.

Any of you guys know some good websites with SERIOUS news articles?

Uuuuh....no.

First of all, read the title of his article:
"New Zelda falls flat"

When someone uses a title like that, one assumes the game has some severe control/gameplay issues that breaks the whole game. But once you read it, you realize that the things he says breaks the game are trivial and nothing to make a big deal of. As many here have stated, it looks like an attempt to attack something that has gotten valid positive points. Like S_B said, this is an attempt to get negative reactions in order to attract visitors to the site and add fuel to the fanboy fire.

Hell, even Joystiq themselves wrote an article dismissing everything he said as foolish and silly. You know you must have posted a crappy article in order to create a whole other article dismissing it. Even the readers are beginning to question this guy's mentality when he posted screens saying that the readers were wrong. He is definitely insinuating something with his last Wii impressions.

I'm saying that people shouldn't point a game's flaws, even if the game itself is a masterpiece of gaming. But if the "flaws" are as stupid as these issues, you are bound to be questioned.

Listen.

F*ck Joystiq.

F*ck 1up.

They are run by idiots just trying to up their traffic so their ad investors don't pull said ad, sending their sh*thole websites down the drain.

They are the Jack Thompsons of the game journalism scene.

I actually thought the article dismissing everything Vladimir said was even more poorly written than his. If Joystiq as a gaming website actually regretted Valdimir's article, they would delete it, or they'd make him write a repeal. No, this is basically just two of Joystiq's contributors disagreeing with each other. I actually thought that was the point with the two articles. Like it or not, there are some things (however minor) in Vladimir's article that holds merit, just as there are some things in the counter article that holds merit.

Not saying this is a credit to Joystiq or anything, though.

Everybody needs to calm down.  These sites are obviously trying to get a rise out of us and it seems to have work.  Zelda is going to be an amazing game and the fact that they have to nitpick about colors and being able to read the text on signs, shows how little criticism can be made.

I'll copy and paste my response to this from another forum.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

That's Joystiq and their A+++++ attention whoring for you. They couldn't possibly be doing it for any other reason, especially when everyone else in the industry says the game is beautiful.

What points did that article make that were valid? Bloodworth pretty much refuted the one with the saturation of "browns". Not to mention the signs not being read from a distance, well they are supposed to be in another language, always have been which helps immerse you in Zelda's fantasy world. To defend the article as anything more than idiotic and petty is pretty sad, especially if you read the title.

Amazingly, there are no redeeming traits AT ALL in that article. It is patently indefensible. Zelda has many colors, and signs are in a different language...

I now feel really guilty for visiting Joystiq regularly for general gaming news. That site has seem amazingly LOW journalistic standards. AMAZINGLY LOW. It makes me fee god awful dirty. It's so amazingly obvious that they're doing it for hits too... I mean... oh my god. It's...obscene.

This is what happens when bloggers try to be journalists too. You get idiotic posts masquerading as editorial and news. I do feel bad for Engadget, though, Joystiq is their sister site and yet Engadget has amazing integrity.

That's exactly what is wrong with the article. He's not posting his honest impressions - you know, 'I've played this far, this is what I like, this is what I don't like.' That would actually be useful. No, what he posted was just a lame attention grab.
“...there are those who would...say, '...If I could just not have to work everyday...that would be the most wonderful life in the world.' They don't know life. Because what makes life mean something is purpose.  The battle. The struggle.  Even if you don't win it.” - Richard M. Nixon
