Topic: Eight New Virtual Console Games Revealed

The ESRB's website has updated with ratings for some upcoming VC titles. Updated with even more games!

Since Nintendo announced the initial 30 games appearing on the Virtual Console in the United States, there's been some criticism floating around that there aren't enough quality titles. Luckily, the ESRB's website has recently been updated to include ratings on eight VC games, including:

• Hogan's Alley (E)  
• Kid Icarus (E)  
• Kirby's Adventure (E)  
• Pilotwings (E)  
• Pro Wrestling (E)  
• Punch-Out (E)  
• Wild Gunman (E)  
• Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (E)  
• Kirby's Super Star (E)  
• Mario Kart 64 (E)  
• Star Fox 64 (E)  
• Super Metroid (E)  
• Kirby's Dream Land 3 (E)  
• The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (E)  
• Excitebike (E)  
• Ice Climber (E)  
• Dr. Mario (E)  
• Mario Brothers (E)  
• Ice Hockey (E)  
• Soccer (E)  

   

It is unknown when exactly these games will become available, so stay tuned to PGC.

Now THAT is what I'm talking about. Now we just need to cut the prices in half so they're not so ridiculously high. All PSX games are downloadable for $5 on Sony's service.

Yes! Star Fox 64! The one good N64 game I somehow managed to miss out on! And Legend of the Seven Stars! Too many exclamation points!

It's nice to see some good games confirmed, too bad Super Mario RPG won't be out until January 2007 at the earliest. Also, where is Super Mario World and Paper Mario? Those are 2 of my most anticipated VC games (even though I own Paper Mario and can play it now, I have Super Mario World but my Super NES is busted).

Wait, Super Metroid is rated E?

I remember it came out RIGHT before the ESRB started (the first Nintendo game I remember having a rating was Donkey Kong Country which only came out a month or two later way back in 1994).  But how is it an E (especially when Metroid Prime is T and doesn't feature Super Metroid's dead human scientists, flesh-melting Crocomire, and blown-apart Ridley?)  It ought to be E10+.

Then again, everyone should have played Super Metroid, and it was among the only batch of games I sold (and obviously regretted).  So I'll not be a killjoy and be excited about it too!

And the Super NES Kirby games.  Mmmm.  Love that Super Star.

If you haven't played Super Metroid, Kirby: Super Star, and Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars, you'd better play them when they're available on the VC, or else you deserve a kick in the pants from every REAL Nintendo gamer out there.

Back in 1994 did any parent object to Super Metroid?  No.  In fact aside from Mortal Kombat I can't think of any SNES game that in 1994 that wasn't appropriate for kids.  So to me E seems logical.  Us pre-ESRB kids all somehow survived that era without getting warped and it wasn't until stuff like Night Trap, Mortal Kombat and Doom came out that content that clearly wasn't suitable for kids was being released.  While I support the ESRB because it helps keep the government from butting in in my mind games fall into two categories: safe for kids or not.
