FOR THE LOVE OF REGGIE, REVIEW RFN ON ITUNES!
« on: October 13, 2006, 06:33:58 PM »
A few weeks ago, I suggested to our podcast gurus that we start asking listeners to write reviews at the iTunes RFN page.  Today, there are exactly the same number of reviews that were there before we started asking people.  So let me ask again now, in a different way.

The iTunes reviews and starred rating influence our ranking in searches through iTunes.  That helps new listeners find the podcast.  More listeners motivate us to work harder on the podcast and make it better.  If you have an iTunes account, you can write a review of the podcast.  If you don't have an account, it only takes a minute to set up, and of course it's free.  It would take you thirty seconds to write a couple of sentences about how much you like RFN.  This very night, we could easily double or triple the number of reviews (depending on how long it takes the iTunes moderators to approve them...so don't cuss).

To get to the RFN page: Open iTunes, click on the Music Store, go to the Podcasts section, search for Radio Free Nintendo (or just Nintendo).  Click on the RFN page and then click the link to write a review.  OR, if you already subscribe to RFN through iTunes, just look at your list of podcasts and click the little arrow button next to RFN's name.  It will take you straight to the podcast's page in the music store.

In short: WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE?  IF YOU LOVE THE PODCAST, WRITE A REVIEW ALREADY!  PLEASE!  THROW US A FRICKING BONE!

Also, subscriptions help greatly.  If you've been downloading the show or listening it through Odeo, that's great, but I highly recommend an iTunes subscription to the show.  You can find it easily by doing a search in the iTunes Store for "Radio Free Nintendo."  It's all free and you get DVD-like chapters so you can skip through to your favorite parts, or pick up where  you left off.

What if we think you guys suck?  Do you still want us to write a review?

Sorry, but I don't support iTunes.  Odeo all the way, baby!

If you want more listeners to the podcast, perhaps there's another way of attractingn them?  Like--for example--from the PGC main page.  Or--better yet--from the main page of the new website.

lol, I love you silly corporate rebels.  Support a company while they're small and still working out of a garage and then treat them like the devil when they get popular.  Wasn't Apple the underdog against the evil Microsoft empire here?

I never said I don't support Apple; I said I don't support iTunes.  The program is god-awful.  While I'm on the subject, the iPod is a (beautiful) piece of crap.

The greater irony is that Nintendo has adopted Apple's strategies, full on, with Reggie even admitting that they aiming for Apple's same style and marketing approach.

The iPod did for MP3 players what the Wii hopes to do for consoles: take the market out of the hands of the hardcore and allow it to be something that anyone can use and enjoy by making it easy and approachable.

Let's not ignore the fact that the box art for the DS Lite and Wii are clearly inspired by Apple's boxart (show the product from an obscure angle on the outside of the box), and that Nintendo is trying to be the iTunes of gaming with their VC. Then there's the fact that the DS Lite has the same glossy finish as the iPod and the Wii will match.

If Nintendo succeeds this time around, they owe most of their success to Apple and their strategy of expanding the market rather than fighting for existing market, a strategy which worked insanely well for Apple and looks very much like it'll do the same for Nintendo.

I tried to do a review, but it said I don't have an AOL Wallet. Or an Apple account. Apparently, Itunes doesn't want me. I did subscribe though. Kinda pointless since I will still download the mp3s.

Thanks, Smash!  ShyGuy, you do have to get an account to write reviews.  It may require a credit card, but I'm not sure.  It's the same account you would use to buy songs from iTunes.
