« on: September 01, 2006, 09:52:01 PM »
I didn't want these to go to waste. 'These' being some things I posted when I was banned from another board. I was, maybe, 13 or 14 at the time?  (Names changed to protect the...um...people involved.)

These were posted after I was 'found out', but before I was banned...

Quote

What the hell? I recommend this board to a couple of friends, and we all get shunned from the Press Start community? I mean, yeah, Hoggle was an idiot...but I wasn't expecting all of the members (and mods) of the forum to be idiots about this too.

I'm not very tech savvy. I don't know how we all have the same IP address. geeky john suggested that it was because we all live in the same area, and I bought that. Maybe, because I'm only attributed to a few posts from that IP address, its simply because I posted at Nerds4Ever a few times while over at his place, in between Time Splitters 2 matches. I really don't know, though. What I DO know, however is that geeky john, Hoggle (and recently Aughra), and I are three separate people.

I'm not quite sure what else to say beyond that. I think most of you who know me at all (I have been around awhile...mostly at Press Start Boards, of course, but still...), should hopefully think of me as a somewhat intelligent, honest person. And, at the very least, I should think, if I were to pull something like this, I would do it with a bit better sense of humour than this. So I would hope most of you would believe me when I say I'm not a multi-account-using idiot.

I had a much longer defence written out, but it seems to have disappeared. If I can find it, I'll post it. Meanwhile, I'll just say, I plead innocent as charged. Thank you.

Quote

I'm a bit more upset about this than I should be...I've just been screwed over one too many times in the real world, and I don't like the fact that it's happening here.

I guess what I really don't like is that people seem to think I'm this stupid. I'm not. Not only are you suggesting I created a couple other identities for no apparent reason, and then failed to use them for any real purpose (whether it be humorous or otherwise), but that I then made another account after you had tracked our IP address, solely because I didn't like the new gay man avatar. Yeah, that makes sense...throw away my long-held identity and ignore the fact that you'd easily know it was me. I'M NOT FRICKEN STUPID.

<way more useless information than you need to know>I said before that I invited a few friends over. Let me elaborate (I had already written this out, but, as I said, I lost it). geeky john has been a good friend for a relatively long time. We both happen to be game geeks, and we both frequent video game message boards. As it turns out, geeky john signed up for IGN Insider (that lucky snob...), and spent, and still spends, his time at the IGN boards. Of course, I constantly bragged about the craptacular Press Start Boards, and, recently, the Nerds4Ever Boards...mostly because I was rather jealous. He let me view Insider material, of course...I know the password, but he politely asked that I didn't post on the IGN message boards under his name. So, anyway, he actually went ahead and joined Press Start Boards before it sank, and all was good. Then he joined Nerds4Ever Boards, and all was good. Then he told a friend of his, Hoggle, about the Nerds4Ever boards...and all was not good (I think that's what happened, how he found out about it, anyway). I know Hoggle, he comes over for multiplayer game matches, and even went with us to the Cube Club. Unfortunately, I think he's a bit more used to chat rooms, instant messaging and such. I have nothing against him, but I'll be the first to admit he acted a bit...um...unruly here. He has already, obviously, created 3 separate accounts: Hoggle, Aughra and animal.</way>

There have only been two times I have ever used an alias on these boards. One was, obviously, wandering-yank. I think that falls under Supervillian_Mod's "joke avatar" category, I only used it once (and then one time after that on accident), in an attempt to be humorous. The second was at the Press Start boards, and was so incredibly, obviously me I'm still shocked no one figured it out. It was a joke identity I used for a while, also as a vessel for humour. I'll give a cookie to anyone who can guess who it was (and NO, it wasn't HOTCARL or SoVeryGay).

So there you have it. Everything I said is true, and I will continue to stick by my statements, no matter what silly avatars you stick on me and other people.

On a side note, could you check to see if I have ever posted from a different IP than the one listed? I know this won't prove anything to you guys, but I certainly know I've posted from other places than home, and I want to confirm that geeky john's theory is true.

So, anyway, if you guys want to play a little Survivor, then, hey, fine. Let's vote people off the island! Who first? Hoggle, geeky john, or me? I vote I stay, of course...because I'm selfish and I was here first. But first let's all drink delicious and refreshing cans of MOUNTAIN DEW(TM)!

[edit]....

Quote
Or just ban all of them, because they're all retards anyway.

You can't do this to me! I'm Wandering Foster Brit !
I demand an immediate apology!

Quote
You know what? At this point none of "them" has proven himself to be a usefull or even tolerable board member. Just ban the IP.

Ahahaha. Please define what you would consider a "usefull" board member. If you cannot tolerate me, then sorry. I'm assuming it's because you are adamantly opposed to any message board posts longer than a short sentance.

Quote
Does anyone else but me find this just plain retarded?

Yeah, I find this whole charade pretty much retarded.

Quote

Please, EVERYONE join the bandwagon bash my intelligence and competence without actually making an intelligent counter argument yourself! These "conversations" are so stimulating, I can't help but enjoy myself!

I think I was banned before I had a chance to post this next one...
Quote

*wandering-brit Niavly [naively] continues to try to convince people of innocence, people shrug and turn to the side [of the] person who has [the] power to ban them.*

I guess what really doesn't make sense, to me at least, is that your entire argument is based on one fact: all three of us have the same IP address. Well, whoop-dee-doo. As many people, including myself, have been quick to point out, there are many alternate explanations for this. Nothing else really adds up. There is no conceivable reason for me to have multiple accounts like this (go ahead, try to name one reason. Name one thing I have gained or could've possibly gained by doing this). There is an obvious disparity between the three of us in terms of personality and opinion (not that this couldn't be faked, but, once again, why? We're all average shmoes.) And, hey, I'm not an idiot.  I know this board doesn't tolerate crap. And, if I were the shmuck you make me out to be, I certainly wouldn't be, at this point, denying that I'm a multi-user troll while still continuing to post under my fake names.

I hope that most people think of me as an at least somewhat decent guy. I try very hard not to do things to people that I wouldn't wish on me. I mean, look at my posts. I hardly ever make fun of anyone. I hardly ever swear. I know that sounds a bit, uh, self-gratifying, and it is, so sorry. But what you are essantially doing is attacking my character...you have nothing to go on but my word on this, and you're saying, 'no, sorry, your word isn't good enough. You're a lying idiot.'

Oh well. I rant much too long. Thank you, to those of you have shown at least a shred of common sense in this matter. Namely, Whacko88 and ColSanders

These next ones were posted on some other board...
Quote

It's a shame that I can't get in there, because I'd just copy and paste the thread that did me in. It's all ludicrously funny, anyway.

What it all boils down to is that my town broadcasts the same IP address for every internet user, and I had some friends-well, a friend, who was surprisingly, uh, trollsome. In the end, after much arguing and gay-man-avatar placing, the entire IP was banned from Nerds4Ever.

It still seems kind of strange, though...I mean, I never curse, I never make fun of anybody, ever, and my posts are always excessively long. Sorry for bragging, but it seems to me that I would be the last sort of person to be banned from a message board....

Ah well. Guilty until proven innocent. And I don't think anybody really cared for me one way or the other, so its nobody's loss but mine.

Quote

He found out about the boards from another friend, who I reccomended the boards to. They both started posting, and mr. troll created multiple accounts and wrecked general havoc. Supervillian_mod looked up his IP address so as to ban him, and linked Mr. troll, some other guy, and I all together in one big, ban-worthy clump.

I dont understand any of this...

anyway, what I do know is that my ISP has dinamic IP, so I don't know how an IP ban could work with me, every time I  reconect I have a different one.

And then keeps them for years?

2002, according to Wikipedia. So I was 14 at the time.

....I like how, now that I'm 18, I can date myself on message boards. It's nice being able to say things like "when I played Super Mario 64 as a kid" without embarrassment.

Update!

I'm sure you're all excited to know that there have been some exciting developments over at the always exciting Press Start/Nerds4Ever. I need my own blog.

For the sake of discussion (and not drama) I'll post in this thread. And I'm on the hiptop, so forgive the lazy typing.

I know some of you have fond memories of the ezboard, but it didn't really seem like the users there represented our peers. It always seemed like the average age at a press start message board user was between 5 and 10 years younger than the average age of the staff. The epitome of comedy, entertainment, and intellectualism (all at once) at the ezboard was a "person above me" thread.

The entire point of the nerds4ever board was to weed out immaturity (not necessarily youth) from the community. The end result was satisfying - a much more enjoyable experience than the ezboard. Yes there was drama for the sake of drama, but good lord, it was more entertaining than a "person above me" thread - depending on your qualifications for entertainment

All of that said, the real problem with that board was my then belief that I always knew what the best thing was for everyone, which extended to hyper-judgementality (did I just coin that?) over what makes a community member good or bad. Who am I to judge? To anyone who had their thread locked, post deleted, or account banned because I didn't feel like they were contributing "the right way," I apologize. A word to anyone who must polarize their feelings to those extremes like I did - center yourself and calm down. I wish I had.

As for this board - would there be rainbows if we didn't have a flood? If it took the nerds4ever board era to make everyone respect the rules and just mellow out (as someone else put it), then I'm glad we had it. Thank god no one is posting about democracy whenever olimod bans someone. Praise jesus that none of us take this as seriously as we used to, and kudos to those who never did.

Also... um... if the last board was Nerds4Ever... what do we call this? I mean, it's still the Nerds4Ever forum... so what do we call it?

Its not the nerds4ever forum, its the press start boards. It will always be at http://pressstart.com/boards

As part of my penance, I'll always have a press start forum there, and I'll never moderate again

My archnemesis supervillian_mod no longer a mod? Press Start boards back in action, and hosted on supervillian_mod's Nerds4Ever site? Perhaps it was time to make my return....

Hello. Several years ago I was known as "wandering-brit." I invited a friend who invited a friend who was an ass over to the nerds4ever forums. SuperVillian_Mod changed each of our avatars to a large picture of two men kissing. And then banned our IP (we all had the same IP.) The thought was that I was trolling with multiple dupe accounts. Some people pointed out that maybe we really were three separate people - but then some other people pointed out that I was boring and not well liked anyway, so it all worked out.

The doctors say what followed was a mental breakdown, but I don't buy it. What's wrong with finding this four-year-old incident funny? It is. So what if I can't stop laughing? Laughing and laughing.
