Developers in Japan EXTREMELY excited for Wii
« on: October 05, 2006, 10:34:34 PM »
IGN has posted these results for all 3 next generation consoles from various Japanese developers. The Wii has the highest expectation and excitement level out of all of them.

Here are some key quotes:

PS3

Quote

First up, a question on how much the developers expect out of the next generation systems. For the PS3, 48% said that they have extremely high expectations for the system, with 32% having just high expectations. 18% said that they don't expect much of the system at all.

Wii

And then, we come to the Wii, which seems to have the favor of the entire Japanese development community. 36% have high expectations for the system, with 63% claiming extremely high expectations. Only 1% of responders said that they weren't expecting all that much from Nintendo's new system.

Who will come out on top:

Quote

Finally, Famitsu put all three systems against one another. In the category of system sales, 60% of those surveyed expect Wii to come out on top. PS3 took 37% of the vote compared to Xbox 360's 3%. The PS3's price point was cited as reason for the low expectations.

I really hope Sony's whole plan for the PS3 blows up in their face. They have done an awful job putting together the system, shamelessly copied Nintendo, and pushed a medium that is chock full of DRM and is unproven. I don't think I'll be buying a PS3 this generation unless they happen to pull some exclusives I actually care about. MGS and FF aren't enough to make me even bat an eye at the system.

Nintendo are pushing DRM systems too, though, that criticism is not entirely legitimate (though Blu-Ray is crap in terms of fair use restrictions etc)
I'm sure they'll get their exclusives...I mean, they're not that stupid, right?

I can't wait for next E3 or whatever to find out what those mother@$#@ers (developers) are working on over in the land of the rising sun (japan).

Many people were hesitant to jump on the Wii-bandwagon simply because of it was unproven. After this (hopefully) successful launch of the Wii, I can't see how any developer would still be on the fence about developing for Wii. There's too many positives.

I'll just list the two main ones:

WAY cheaper developement cost
New control methods give new IP's a better chance of survival against time tested sequels
"Hey....

I'm not a whore, ok? Really.....really, I'm not.

But, if she slips man....if she slips, I slide!"

I do think the Wii has a chance to really change things with its cheap development costs and that people tend to overlook that aspect too much. When a company can make games for it for roughly 1/3 the cost of an Xbox 360/PS3 has potential to really change the direction the game development community was going (More and more expensive) and allows for more wiggle room when it comes to experimentation.

I personally am working on developing a design document for a game, that really would not exist without the Wii.  Actually, no it could exist it would just suck as badly as Conker's multiplayer sucks, without the Wii controller.

What what what?!

Conker's multiplayer was the shiznittlebambizzle!

Sure it wasn't the most intuitive of controls, but who can resist a game of "Beach"?

Today is a day to laugh like a supervillain:

MUWAH HA HA HA HAHA HA!!!!  This is awesome news.  Nintendo is winning the hearts of the third parties.  In related news, Ubisoft has actually openly said that it intends to outperform EA this generation purely by the power of huge Wii support.  In other words, these first 8 (or is it 9?) games are just the tip of the iceberg!

Third parties are the key, and Nintendo's getting their support without payoffs or any special favours.  It's unbelievable.  A second age of awesomeness is coming for Nintendo fans.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Please let this come to fruition, not just vapor support.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.
