Is this a cheap Micro?
« on: October 14, 2006, 01:53:38 PM »
Just a quick question I was wondering the answer to. I was at a store today to pick up ClubHouse games for the DS and a saw they had a collection of Game Boy Micros. They are the Famicom Anniversary ones. What surprised me was the price for them was $50 cdn. I hadn't heard anything about the Micro's going down on sale. Last I had seen, they were still charging around $89 cdn for them. So, I was just wondering if someone could tell me if that was a good buy for the Micro or not? Does anyone if they're cheaper or going to be cheaper anywhere else? Keep in mind, I live in Canada.

Also, it's been awhile since the Micro has been released and I was just wondering what people thought about the device again. I've never owned an Advance and when I bought the DS, I never did feel like picking one up. But, I might get this Micro. Still, I just thought I'd check up on people's opinion of it before I commit to buying it.

After paying Canada's 47% socialist pig tax, I don't think it's a good deal at all.

But it's better than what it was released for. Still, there is pretty low demand for the Micro so it goes cheaq at used game stores, ebay, etc.

What do you mean 47% tax? If you're referring to importing it, that's not what I'm doing. I live in Canada. I actually live in Alberta too, so that means I only have to pay 7% tax. As for ebay, that's something I didn't think of. I have seen used Micro's sold in places like EB Games but they are more expensive than this price.

I'm joking.

When I was in Vancouver I thought buying a Gamecube game would be a sweet deal but the high tax (17%) killed the exchange rate advantage. It sucked, so since then I've remembered it.

I think less than $50 US (your whacky canadian dollars still suck worse than our wonderous green-with-pastel-highlights-backs, right?) is a damn good deal for such a thing of beauty.

As long as you still get Clubhouse Games, then it's cool.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

Well, last I checked, you guys FINALLY decided to use more colours in your notes. We've been doing that for ages.. And if imitation truly is the best form of flattery, then you can come to your own conclusions while being led not-so-subtly by me..

I doubt Canada was the first to come up with the idea. Anway, I'm glad we finally went with colours, even if the resulting bills are hourribly ugly.

Now all we need are whackily shaped coins and we'll be set.

Yes, sorry. I should rephrase. "Your [canadian dollars] still [are worth less] than our [american dollars], right?"

(The answer is yes. I wasn't sure because I didn't know the micro's msrp was no longer $99 US.)

Yeah, Canadian dollars are still worth less. So, from what I'm seeing, I guess it's a pretty good price. Though, I'm still wondering how the Micro stacks up compared to the SP. And can I link to the Gamecube with a Micro?

My front-lit SP is still my favorite portable in terms of design. Large enough to be comfortable to play yet small enough to be comfortably portable, flip-top screen, works great outdoors and in, works with every game boy game ever made (well, except Kirby's Tilt N Tumble), etc.

Oh, and no, the micro won't work with the gamecube, at least not offically.

But still. Shiny. Limited famicom edition. Cheap.

Regarding Kirby's tilt n tumble, are you referring to the fact that it only plays advance games or would something like WarioWare Twisted not work on it.

The SP actually plays gameboy and gameboy color games (micro doesn't.) Tilt N Tumble doesn't work only because that particular game cartridge can't handle being upside down. I don't think WarioWare Twisted has this problem, so the game should work on the SP (and micro, and DS.)

The Micro is completely useless, and quite frankly, a POS.

If you have the DS already, forget the Micro.  The DS Phat/Lite does everything the Micro can and more, so don't bother wasting $50 for the Micro, use it on another DS game.

I love pointed opinions.  The micro is the only way to play GBA games in my opinion.  It gets even better if you have a nice home made gamecube link cable to use with it.  Pac-man vs., Crystal Chronicles, and Four Swords don't get much better.  If I saw that deal I would probably buy a second one for myself.

Many places are selling Micro's at $50 each right now.  Whether it comes from Nintendo as a way of clearing out inventory or they just aren't selling at retail who knows.  I still want to import the Famicom from JPN though, the box is uber better than the US one.

I couldn't disagree more.  I don't go anywhere without my Micro and Fire Emblem.
