Hudson jumping on the VC
« on: May 11, 2006, 05:48:09 PM »
They pledge at least 100 games.
Sounds like the VC is going to be huge.  You know Nintendo will want more games on their VC than the other two, so Nintendo will likely have more than 100 games to start off.  This is pretty cool.

I checked their list of games, both published and developed, and if they ever have a poll or ask fans which game/s they want on VC I will instantly ask for "Faxanadu". It's one of the few NES games I really, really, really want.

Crazy!  Apparently, Hudson developed some of the Wars games for Nintendo.  It seems they've traditionally had a closer relationship to Nintendo than I thought they did.

Also, that IGN story says Hudson's trying to get the rights to bring other third party games to the VC, too.  They must really see the dollar signs.

It's great news that they're trying to get rights to games from dead companies. If it's worth their while to spend time and money on getting these games, hopefully it's worth their while to translate Japanese games for North America.

I think it rocks that they're looking into properties from the dead companies.  That's got even me excited.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

I think Hudson sees this as a money making oppurtunity, and rightfully so. I hope they get the Dataeast titles, come on Bad Dudes!

I love Faxanadu.  But from what I understand, it was part of a series or something.  So I hope we can get all of them!!!

Well, since Konami owns them, I don't see why Konami would be against releasing it. Supposively, they were the ones who initiated contact between Nintendo and Hudson for TG16/PCE support.

Indeed, the Xanadu/Dragon Slayer series spans a dozen or so games in Japan. Almost all of them are for MSX or PC unfortunately, not consoles. Two were released stateside though:

Faxanadu was a side story to Xanadu, the second game in the series.

The fourth game in the series was also released in the US, in fact also on the NES. It was called Legacy of the Wizard, and was a Broderbund release for some weird reason.

Bonk and Adventure Island are two must own games for me.  Those two games were great.  And I will have to get Super Bomberman 2 for the SNES, and I will probably get another Bomberman game if they their is another one with great game mechanics.

I really don't know how I am going to buy all the Virtual Console games I want to play, AND Wii games I want to own.  Hopefully, Nintendo will allow us to download a free game or two with the purchase of a Wii game.  That would be nice.

One of the most confusing games of all time, easily.

Really? That's weird. I mean, Konami's acquisition of Hudson was fairly recent, and Hudson's relationship with Nintendo has been seemingly rock solid (certainly a lot better than Konami's) for the past 20 years.

It would've seemed like getting Hudson on board was almost a given.

Hopefully with Ubi on board we'll be getting a lot of those old Broderbund NES games for the VC. Guardian Legend is another almost "must have" title.

Friend of mine stopped by and pointed out that while the 5th game in the season was only released in the US on PCs, it had a Japanese release on the Sega Genesis (Sorcerian).

I did a little more checking later and apparently while the two I mentioned are the only apparent US releases to consoles, much of the series actually was on some console or other

Side story to 2 - Faxanadu - NES (also released in US)
3 - Romancia - NES (Japan only)
4 - Legacy of the Wizard - NES (published by Broderbund in the US)
5 - Sorcerian - Genesis (Japan only) (also released in US for PCs by Sierra)
6 - Legand of Heroes - Genesis and SNES (Japan only)
6 side story  - Legend of Heroes II - Genesis and SNES

and apparently, though this probably doesn't help us any as far as VC goes, 8 and a sidestory to 8 were released on Turbographx CD

So if there's some sort of big call for it, lots of these games could eventually be localized for sale on the VC.

I think that the series you guys are mentioning is a good example if a series that could finally have it's whole in one  area.  Mario is another good example but not as near extreme as these.  Also Hudson said they were going to trythere hardest to make CD games work.  They last a lot of money with the TurboGrafx play so I'm sure this is a golden oppurtunity for them to recoup.  Oh another side note.  Konami was said to have mediated the whole thing.  I'm prettysure inter-company deals have to go through Konami as the parent company so it's not that weird.

Maybe we'll get Castlevania X: Rondo of the Blood?  Oh yes!  And Y's 1,2,3.

We oughta be able to go all the way up to Y's 5... all were available on NES, SNES, and/or Turbographx 16.

I had *sniff* 'Legacy of the Wizard' as well. Interesting game, used to play it quite a bit back in the day. Not sure what prompted me to get it in the first place. I recall being impressed by how large the game was, but also getting annoyed at how often I got lost... wonder how it would stack up against my current tastes...
