Mario for Wii Shown Briefly and More
« on: May 09, 2006, 07:56:20 AM »
Nintendo shows footage of a new Mario platformer for Wii.

The name is Super Mario Galaxy.  The footage was brief, but Mario was doing some typical looking platform things to the tune of a Wii controller.  It has not yet been announced that the game would be a launch title.  Only Zelda has been confirmed as a launch title so far.

Other games shown briefly include (I will describe the gameplay when names were not available): drumming, golf, symphony conducting, racing, Super Mario Galaxy, flying, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Wario Ware, baseball, Red Steel and Zelda.

Other notes so far are that Zelda will be available on the Wii's launch day and Metroid Prime 3 is subtitled Corruption if my ears did not deceive me.  A speaker will be included in the remote portion of the controller.  In an example from Zelda, the bow-string snaps on the remote and as the arrow travels the sound moves to the TV (or your stereo) speakers.

Update: Nintendo announced that 27 Wii games will be playable on the E3 show floor tomorrow.

Super Mario Galexy looks so feakin' AWESOME! I watched the video live, and seriously I almost crapped my pants in excitement. Wii is going to ROCK!

Yep, looks great!  They didn't say it would be a launch title though.

This is almost like the GC zelda was cancelled, and it sucks

The rest is awesome, fantastic, etc. *insert pants joke here also*

What is this "Gamecube" of which you speak?

So, mantidor, still bitter about Zelda Wii controls?

Im very bitter about TP having the controls, and worst, two damn versions! but Im pleased about the especific details of the implementation and my doubts about the real Zelda rev for the future have diminished.

I watched the footage for this game and I will say that it looks spectacular, incredible, ingenious. In fact I'm gonna watch that same trailer over and over because it looks so damn good.

Ironically, TP which was developed for the GCN actually appears to be BY FAR the best looking Wii title and one of the few that can actually stand up to 360/PS3 titles.

As for Super Mario Universe.
I love the idea of the game taking place in space allowing for a unique twist on the usual platform gaming mechnanics. I'm just concerned the space setting might get old fast. Hopefully in between planet jumping, Mario will get to explore a few larger planets with blue skys.
I could see the whole space thing just being a way to travel from level to level starting with the Mushroom Kingdom. Who knows, we might even see Mario on Pop Star or Zebes. Wouldn't that be awesome?
