E3 footage from PGC?
« on: April 22, 2006, 12:22:09 PM »
Is PGC having any footage from E3 available for download? Or are you just gonna let the other available sites suffer into oblivian? I question this because I know from before that PGC had some footage but it was only to test the servers I think, and I know that whoever made the videos tried to make them as small as possible for easier downloads yet remaining enough quality to be watchable. Do you guys know x264/h264? I don't know how to explain it properly, but what I know is that I've used this program that encodes avi/mpg/mpg2 and possibly others into mp4 (that's what it will show instead of x264 or h264), here's the kicker, a video (avi, mpg, mpg2) will be encoded into the same framerate, and resolution but with aproximately half the size of the original.

Divx is a h.264 derivative, as is Xvid.

Standard WMV and MPEG2 look like ass while producing huge files. If you want to host them, fine, just don't expect PGC to foot that bandwidth bill. Oh and prepare for angry non-Windows users if you use WMV.

BTW, H.264 is standard MPEG, just MPEG4. Which is a standard.

Well if you wanted the best compression, then u have real player
but again you force people to install something (and installs itunes background junk even if you click on no to itunes being installed)

I find .mov is the best for small-file quality. It's certainly better than WMV. And PLEASE do not use Real, it's the worst thing in history and I hate it.

I'm not forcing anyone am I? But you can go pay for an Insider subscription just to get reasonable videos, there's also fileshack.com, and gametrailers.com.

There's always Bittorrent, but I'm sure there's someone that will nag about it too.

The put up torrents last year, didn't they?

We are hoping to use torrents this year, probably with DivX compression.  No DVD planned, unfortunately.  If you know of a professional-level video editor who would put together footage for a DVD as a volunteer, please have him contact us for next year.  That's the main problem; the DVD pretty much pays for itself, plus a little profit to help PGC stay afloat, but it doesn't make enough to pay for the kind of professional video editing required.  Adam Kontras did it for free back in 2002, but it was a crazy amount of work and I don't think he's up for it again.

Ah, cool! It's good to know that PGC will have some footage, 'cause it doesn't even have to be gameplay footage or trailers (those will be available from Nintendo themselves) but it could be an interview or some funny incident about E3 just to give us PGC readers a taste of E3 through the eyes PGC itself. Though I'd wish I would know someone with video editing skills who would do it for free and willingly.
