Design the Revolution
« on: May 23, 2005, 05:41:30 PM »
During the conference Iwata-san said something which I realy liked, he asked for the journalists and readers to help him decide which colour to use to market the Revolution, so this thread is dedicated to choosing your favourite colours or showing links to designs you made yourself.
Anyway Ill get the ball rolling and propose a Zelda Sp type gold, or black with gold writing, gold is a really marketable colour and will most definately make the console stand out, just make sure not to make it too close to diarrhoea jabs, (though jabs like that don't really bother me if I were Iwata I might just send out a pink console with a furry controller with a message "maybe purple doesn't seem so bad now?").
So if you want post any ideas of the colour, look etc.

On a related note is PlanetGamecube going to do a poll and send to Nintendo seeing as Iwata-san asked and everything.
To The finder... the island of Koholint, is but an illusion... human, monster, sea, sky... A scene on the lid of a sleeper's eye... Awake the dreamer, and Koholint will vanish much like a bubble on a needle... Cast-Away, you should know the truth!

The mirrored black is the way to go.  Easily.

All the pretty colors can be saved for special additions.  The black makes the ps3 and 360 look like toys and I like that.

People need options. But not too many options, or some of them will undoubtedly get pegged as "toy" colors.

Black looks quite good. It should be the standard.

Red could also work. Not very typical for a console, but it's a popular color.

Blue is another typical color, but if Nintendo wants to be "serious", they should make it a dark blue. Possibly one that can be mistaken for black in some conditions.

"Platinum" and "Zelda gold" are very obvious choices which would work very well, but Nintendo should hold off on those ones for special occasions, and stick to the colored-plastic versions for the launch, rather than getting into painted units.

Making one color especially for the girls out there is a very good idea, but you have to be very careful about getting the right color. I think transparent pink, like from the GBA's launch, could work really well. Plus if it's the only transparent color, it'll get more respect, and avoid some of the inevitable childish mockery.

BTW, I don't think the color on the vertical stand is as good as it could be. Something like black might work a lot better, if they're just going to stick with one color for it.

Edit: I forgot white. It's good too. Provided it doesn't get dirty.

I'm all for red.  Preferably a darker shade, like the Virtual Boy.

At first I was iffy about white, for its potential to become as yellow as my Dreamcast, but the gloss finish could help prevent that from happening.
If I want realism I'll go outside.

I don't care what colour they make additional Revs provided the colour focused on in the ads is black, white, grey or silver.  The Cube being purple wasn't a problem.  The problem was that was the main colour.  That was the colour that was marketed which gave the Cube the appearance of a toy.  Ignorant people would not know there were other colours and would assume that all Cubes are purple which was a problem.

I would like some cool colours at launch though.  They always save the really cool colours until later and for once it would nice for the early adopters to get rewarded.  I think exclusive launch period colours would be nice to give fans an extra incentive to purchase a Rev early on.  A neutral colour should still be the focus though.

I really wish they could release the one that's like the Zelda one at launch. But they'll only do that AFTER awhile in order to entice those that haven't bought it. Sigh. A special NES edition looks feasible too, with it being the same type of shape.

I would like a platinum, no wait the PS3 is already, so I would like the black one with small symbols representing all of Nintendo's franchises around the edges. I can imagine it now..

Luigi/Link green.  As in, darker than that horrid Xbox green shown during the press conference.
