"Well, being the twitchy kids we were back then, we couldn't seem to help but eventually jar the NES - just the slightest bit - as we got to the later levels... inevitably causing the NES cart to deviate from its prime position, causing the multiple colors screen of death (MuCSOD) There I just invented a term"

Nonono, the NES was a good ways out of the way where we played it so something like that wouldn't have happened.  This was a legitimate glitch with the game.  You would physically be teleported into the wall with NO way out.

Oh, I'm not doubting the glitch ... I was just saying that the touch state of the NES would make it hard to play the game for that long of time and not have it freeze on us.  I also remember a few spots where you could litterally make it very difficult or even impossible to get back to your rover (the Sophia I think).

One of my favourite NES games was Snake, Rattle 'n' Roll.  Man, that game was awesome - great music, great graphics, and two-player co-operative mode.  And naturally, it was insanely difficult.

I do have a fondness for Trog as well.  The Arcade version is much, much better (it's got claymation graphics and four player!) but the NES version is pretty damn cool too.

so no one know the title of the penguins game? It has proven to be impossible to find.

Oh my god, I loved that game.
I really need to break out my NES, I've forgotten about half the games I played on that sucka.

I second new Lolo and Lode Runner games.  And of course Star Tropics, though that isn't really an underappreciated game in this circle.

I'd like to add Pinball Quest to that list.  One of the first RPG-esque pinball games I know of, and my favorite.

I know it sounds corny, but it was awesome!! best puzzle game Ive ever played.

Blaster Master is top five on the NES. So the good that game was. Anybody remember Capcoms Section- Z?  This was the Hardest game I ever played and the only one I ever had to call that 1-900 number to finally beat the game. 3D WorldRunner and Clash at DemonHead are both quiet classics.
