Anyone know of some good touch-screen protectors?
« on: April 05, 2005, 12:10:09 PM »
I bought some Interact screen protectors because I noticed some tiny scratches on my DS' touchscreen, and I'm not too impressed.  The touch-screen protector is covered in scratches after three days of use and I peeled it off and found that it didn't really stop the screen from getting more scratched anyway.  I might as well not use one at all and just try to be extra-careful with my stylus!

But I'm not willing to give up yet...does anyone know of some touch screen protectors that actually work and don't need replacing every week?  I've read favourable reviews of Pelican and Hori, but I haven't seen either around here.

This probably won't help much, but what exactly are you using to "touch" your touch screen?  A tumb-tack?  Sand paper?

Just use the stylus that game with the DS (or something similar made for PDA, if the Nintendo one is too small for you) and you'll be fine.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I use Nintendo's stylus and thumb-nub, with the occasionaly thumb or q-tip.  I STILL have scratches all over my screen.  Only one of them really has any "depth" to it, and it doesn't hinder gameplay, but it still bothers me....no matter how careful I am my screen still gets scratched....

I've been using the stylus and occassionally my finger and I'm pretty careful - more careful than the average gamer judging by the state my friends' game controllers.  For that matter, I want to let other people play once in a while and I can't hover over them like a hawk to make sure they're treating my baby properly.  So I think a nice screen protector would be good if one exists.

hey im using the pelican one its pretty hard and my screen has not 1 scratch, i only use the bottom screen protector since the top one is crap i really recomend it though.  it actualy makes mario play better since the screen feels a little diferent but in a good way. one thing though, once u put the bottom screen on its kinda hard to get it off, but once u get it off its easy to put on and off

NuShield. Best screen protector. Fits perfectly flat, no dust marks, no adhesives. Little pricey, but three could last you for a few years.

I heard that a screen protector voids your warranty, is this true?  That's the only thing stopping me from using one.

I use the WriteRight micro-thin screen protectors for pda's, and i've found these to work VERY well, I haven't gotten any scractes at all, and they're really easy to take off, i usually replace it about once a month as a pack includes 12 proctectors

I tried the pelican one and it made playing Mona's games on WW:T! pretty hard. However I just love the metal stylus that came with it!

I think mine is by Pelican too, but that non-adhesive one sounds great.  With the Pelican stuff, I ended up buying a second one because dust got on the adhesive side when I was installing, and trying to clean it off just made things worse.

Sorry to necro post, but I was wondering if anyone could validate the quality of the NUShield protectors.  In the form of a mini review would be nice.  The thing that freak me out about screen protectors is the adhesives, the NUshield ones don't have that, so I was wondering if it was worth my money.

If I'm allowed to comment on them....

Are they worth the money? Yes, even at $12 plus shipping I think they are worth the price. They install very easily. It took me a couple minutes trying to bend it just right to slip all edges under the the case. My method ended up a little bit different than the directions. I couldn't  really explain it, but when you install it yourself you'll find your own way. Once installed they barely change the image at all. Any small dust particles between the screen and protector won't leave obvious air bubbles as you would find with cling or adhesive screen protectors. They also have no effect on screen sensitivity or accuracy, as far as I can tell. They have about the same texture against  the stylus as the DS screen, just a little more resistant which I think aids in control. Most importantly they are far, far more durable than the Intec I used to have on my DS. I don't know if it'll last as long on the DS as they claim for regular PDA use since I've really only been playing Polarium the past couple months. But so far I see no wear whatsoever. I saw scratching with the Intec the first time I used it.

Alright, my NUSheild screen protectors came in, and they work pretty well.  I have noticed scratching, and I've only been playing Touch and Go.  I also installed one of them in upside down, and messed it up trying to remove it.  Anyways, the second screen is installed, and slightly scratched, aside from this it works great.  I can't feel these scratches, only see them, and that doesn't bother me.

This lack of durabilty bothers me, but I got this crazy idea.  The adhesive on the Pelican scares me, so what if I was to put the pelican protector on top of the NUShield, creating a durable no adhesive screen protector.  Would this work, or would it be too thick?  Or must I be the guinea pig who tests this?

I could always invest in one of these BATTLE STYLUS!!1

I still haven't noticed any scratching. I guess it's very, very small then? Maybe you have some small particle of dirt on your stylus tip. Time to replace? "...maximum mass and stiffness." I'm sold.

As for your little experiment--go for it, guinea pig. Worst case scenario: you destroy your screen protectors and your DS. :¬þ

I wasn't concerned with the DS, and it should only be a waste of the Pelican screen if it doesnt work.  And that battle stylus is way to expensive for me.  And yes the scratching is very small, and a stylus change might help.  The screens are good, and I do recommend them.

As far as durability and clarity - the G2 from www.pdascreenprotectors.com is the best. I am still using the first one of two and after a year its still scratch-free. You can't even tell its on.
