Nintendo's movie trailers
« on: November 06, 2004, 04:57:08 PM »
I know Nintendo occasionally puts out movie trailers in theaters. But after watching the Mario Tennis opening for about the billionth time (and laughing my head off) I thought, hey, why couldn't Nintendo simply put this in front of a movie as sort of an animated short? I mean, it's good, it's funny, and they'd be blatantly advertising Mario Tennis and the Gamecube at the same time! I'm sure there's no chance of this happening, but I thought it'd be cool.
Thoughts?

It would fit great in front of movies like the Incredibles (go see it now its amazing) seeing as how those are the people most likely to buy it.

I just saw The Incredibles today and there was a lengthy PSP/PS2/Coke comercial that was really slick.  It had neat effects going and looked extreamly polished.  Most of it had Sony's "mascots" like Jax & Daxter, Rachet & Clank, and a few others ocationally drop in full Hi-res 3D models all while they were pushing there message of 'drink coke, win a PSP or PS2'.  As I was watching it I thought that a similar comercial with Nintendo's mascots would work really well, you know not any game footage (there was no game footage in the sony trailer), just have em prance around a bit and pose, in nice hi-res and fluid models.

I think sony's comercial was dead on effective, and I think nintendo should quit taking notes and start following suit

I've seen PS2 ads at 3 of the last 4 movies I've seen. It's one with an asian wise guy dude and it's a big spoof. It's for Jak 3, Ratchet and Clank and some other game.

With some clever marketing and the right audience in the theater, I think movie trailer previews for games are a fantastic way to get to your audience. I mean who knows what specific demographic you're getting on a typical sitcom but at the movies you can deal with very specific age groups and such. It's a great way to get to a target audience.

MP 2 ads before action/sci fi films, Zelda ads before adventure/action/epic drama films, etc.
