NBA Playoff 2004 Prediction, Discussion, and Trash Talking
« on: April 15, 2004, 11:01:37 AM »
Hello all!

I've never started a topic before and so this will be my first.  Now that the NBA brackets have been set for the playoff, and I'm a big fan of sports, especially basketball, I thought I give my opinion on who will win the title and hear some of your thoughts as well.  Just to start things off, I will present the round one match up so that everyone is on the same page.  Anyways, so many things have happened in the West this year that the title is up for grabs.  From #1 to the #8 seed (West), it looks like anyone of these teams can walk away with the title.

My pick is the Timberwolves.  They finally have a solid team, have the number one seed in the west, and Kevin Garnett is playing like a man possessed.  The question mark in the West is the Lakers who is quite dysfunctional.  Anyways,   in the Western Conference, the road to the finals goes through the defending champs, the Spurs.  With that said, I believe the Western Conference finals will be between the T-Wolves and the Spurs with the Wolves over the Spurs in 6 close games.  As for the East, I only see the Pacers and Piston in the Eastern Finals with the Pacers taking the edge in 7 games due to better offensive talent.  As for the NBA finals, T-Wolves in 6 games.

Western Conference
#1 Timberwolves vs #8 Nuggets
#2 Lakers vs #7 Rockets
#3 Spurs vs #6 Grizzlies
#4 Kings vs #5 Mavs

Eastern Conference
#1 Pacers vs #8 Celtics
#2 Nets vs #7 Knicks
#3 Pistons vs #6 Bucks
#4 Heat vs #5 Hornets

Trash talking welcome, but put some substance on the trash please.

The Cavs didn't make it and the Suns just suck....  so what do i want to happen?  Anything as long as it involves the Lakers getting their asses handed to them.

Yeah, Tim Duncan and the Spurs are a force to be reckon with, but will Tim's knee hold out?  God forbid he has a tragic knee injury much like Chris Webber did last year.  I'm hoping he last long enough to take out the dysfunctional Lakers, then it will the battle of the MVP's.  Also, the Grizzlies will put up a good fight.  It looks like the Spurs will have a rather tough run to the title.  First Memphis, then Lakers, and finally Wolves.  Also, I'm not a fan of the Spurs and hope they play 7 games in each series and wear themselves out.  Until they knock the Lakers out, I will be rooting for them, but after that, "Down with the Spurs!".

Well, Game 1 of the playoff is over.  A lot of blow outs with a couple of close games, literally.  Anyways, looks like a lot of you are not basketball fans or don't pay much attention to it.  Oh, well, I'll make this my final post and let the thread die, unless more of you respond.

A lot of young teams were in the playoff this year, so the young team that got blown out will play Game 2 much differently.  I'm looking forward to the Spurs vs Grizzlies game tonight.  If the Spurs continue their dominance, they will breeze through to the championship, but I don't think they can sustain it.  I still believe the Grizzlies will take this series to 6 or 7 games.  If they pressure the Spurs a bit, they have the tendency to crack.  They also have horrible foul shooting, so maybe the Grizzlies can take advantage of that late in the game.  As for the Lakers, if the ref let them play, I believe Houston will take one in LA.  If the ref calls the game close, then Lakers will run away with the series.  I feel the Lakers are 1 or 2  playoff losses away from internal meltdown.  Too much drama in LA for me this year and it will take its toll.  As for the other series, not interested.  the queens...er..Kings vs Allas seems to be high scoring, but little substance.  Oh yeah, I'm not a fan of Texas in general.  So, if those Texas team get eliminated, I wouldn't miss them, unless the Lakers go on a major roll.
