Why the poor FPS support on the Cube?
« on: April 16, 2003, 02:04:08 PM »
I went to buy Splinter Cell and Red Faction 2 this afternoon, and could only get SC because the guy at the counter said that FPSs on the Cube sell so badly that they refuse to carry more than 5 of each title in stock at a time.  That's whack.  I've been waiting to get RF2 since it came out, and this is just annoying.  I still love my Cube, don't get me wrong, but why is it FPSs never do so well?  I thought that Time Splitters 2 was an incredible game, and thought it sold well.  I must've been wrong.  Anyone got any explanation, speculation on this?
I think, therefore I wish.  I wish, therefore I'll never get.

Jeez....another example of why mature titles don't sell well on GC. If you only carry 5 copies of a game at a time of course its not going to sell well. Timesplitters 2 did sell well it sold over 150,000 copies on Cube. For whatever reasons, retailers don't carry many copies or 3rd parties are shipping enough copies. We have been discussing this in the "No wonder M rated games don't sell" thread. This getting ridiculous and is becoming an epidemic, okay guys we are gonna have to band together and do something about this.

N64 Owner = GCN Owner for the most part.

Ask an N64 what the best games on N64 were, and you will inevitably get Perfect Dark or Goldeneye.  It's absurd for retailers to be so brainless as to say that FPS games wouldn't sell well.

That being said, I think that FPS games belong on the PC, and I am not a fan of the genre as it is.  Perfect Dark was something special, and I did buy a copy, but I don't make it a habit to buy FPS games in general, and if I did, it would be for PC.  Speaking of which, does anyone want to buy a copy of UT2K3 for cheap?  I got a copy handed to me at a price I couldn't refuse, and I don't really have a use for the game.  I would like a new GameCube game instead.
Once I had, a little game
I liked to crawl back into my brain
I think you know the game I mean

Why ? Because it is a Kiddie system. FPS fans are either on the PS2 or Xbox. Mature titles sell on the the PS2 & Xbox and not so well on the GC. There are a zillion and one different threads here that say the same exact thing. Look at my CNN.com thread above that says that EVEN Nintendo's best AAA title / FPS title ( Metroid ) sold only 800k. If you have a heckuva lot of FPS titles get a PS2..... if you want the best FPS titles and the best FPS version of a title, get an Xbox.

Maybe console wise, but all real FPS games are made for the PC.

I am a part time retailer. I love First Person Shooters (FPS) to death... I am the biggest first FPS fan and I even did a collage research paper (for which I got an A) on them.  Having said all this, the owner of the shop has given me all responsibility on choosing and stocking up on the best Cube games. So, what i am saying is, I actively refuse to stock up the shop with FPS games for the Gamecube. They just don't sell and I don't want to take the heat for that. It simply doesn't sell. What i have brought has always sold, so I generally have at least a rough idea. Like just the other day someone came and ordered "Wolvarines Revenge" and completely skipped past the newly released "Metroid Prime". Even though Metroid is not a first per shooter people just don't see past that. And yes i really do love first person shooters.

they had 5 copys and u were too slow.... i dont know why your complaning
iv only seen 1 copy of pso for cube ever......
If they order in 30 games, then if they dont sell 30, then they will have to sell them for less to get rid of stock and less profite, now if they order 5 and sell well, then they just get more in and then they wont loose money, cause the distubator will sell it to them for less over time...see
