Unknown Port
« on: December 27, 2003, 11:30:45 AM »
This has been bugging me for the last 2 years. When I got my gamecube, i turned it every which way to learn everything about it. When I looked at the ports on the bottom, I was perplexed. I had done some research. Serial Port 1 is for internet adapters. Hi-Speed Port is for the GBA player and a rumored hard drive from IBM. But I am still confused on the purpose of the 2nd serial port. It seems so tiny, and almost useless. Can someone shed some light on what this damn port is (or will be) used for?

Don'tHate, I see you've been granted with a sexy avatar, like myself.  Omiin seems to have gotten one during my absence...Dee Kay's is the best though.    And before we start speculating that port, let's wait till this big announcement in spring is over, hmm?  I think lots of things will be cleared up.  Just a hunch...no, I didn't hack into Nintendo's database...why on Earth would you think that?...*nervously grins*...I'll be...going...now...

Any interfacing with foreign peripherals such as cameras would likely be done through the SD adapter. It is a strange port though. It's in a small enclosure, and has a small, half-round access hole. Maybe some proprietary connection could be placed there. The hole seems to be just big enough for GCN peripherals.

The ports weren't put there with devices for them already in mind. They were put there for possible future expansions. There is a good chance that they haven't developed anything that will use the last port.

Nintendo is know for doing that. Or they use the port in one market and not in another. (Such as the Disk Drive, and the 64DD.)
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

I'm sure they were anticipating the implementation of the net adapter, at least. Maybe the GBP too. But this late in the game, you're right.
