Five Rare Megaman Games in One Compilation Package
« on: December 15, 2003, 12:41:56 AM »
Ebay sellers begin sobbing due to loss of massive profit.

Source: Capcom
Link: http://www.capcom.com/xpml/game.xpml?gameid=750069

While searching through Capcom's American online store for information on the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the GameCube, I stumbled across another Mega Man game -- one that has not yet been officially announced by Capcom, yet is on their store.  The game, Mega Man Mania, is a Game Boy Advance compilation cartridge in honour of Mega Man's 15th anniversary.  While not much is known about the cartridge, the following information is on the game's page:

  • Mega Man I to V for the Game Boy will be available on the cart.  Mega Man IV and V in particular are very difficult to come by on Ebay because of their scarcity, and are highly sought after.
  • All five games will be colourized for the Game Boy Advance - while they will still obtain their original sprites and backgrounds, they will all be in glorious colour.  A welcome sight for those of us who've spent ten years with Mega Man in black and white.
  • All games will keep their resolution of the original Game Boy, but will be bordered in a similar fashion to Game Boy Advance games on the Game Boy Player.
  • The game will feature unlockable artwork as you progress through the game.

No word on a battery save, but for goodness sake let's hope so.  I can't imagine what devious password system Capcom would devise for a game this complex.  Let's hope that my Mega Man skills have improved, too -- I could only ever finish Mega Man II.  In Mega Man I, I could never beat Enker.

Ben says: I honestly can't wait for this.  I've still got Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge boxed and everything at home.  I got rid of Mega Man II, and the other three never even came out in Australia.  Having all five at once is like a dream come true!  March can't come soon enough!

You might as well get both since the GC and GBA collections have different games.  The Gameboy games are technically different titles though they share some of the bosses.

I may or may not get the GBA games.  I'll get the Cube collection first and then see if I'm in the mood for more Mega Man.

One other thing to add. The name of the collection is called Mega Man Mania and will be released on March 23rd.

Mega Man 2 is still the best in the main series.

Browsing through the used copies at EB tonight, I spotted the original GB Mega Man.  I passed on it though since I was looking for Final Fantasy Adventure, and didn't want to spend much extra.

I got Dr. Wily's Revenge( GB Mega Man I), with box, instructions, and all inserts, off of eBay for $40 last year( or maybe it was earlier this year). I already had II and III, having purchased them when they were new in stores.
Also last year, I bought FFA and FF Legend I, II, and III at GameStop near my college- Still factory sealed!!! Apparently their parent company bought out all the remaining stock a few years ago and distributed it around. I only wish I'd had the cash to by extras for eBay selling. Maybe I should go back there and see if they still have any.
Also, I notice a lot of other gaming sites posting this news without a source. Looks like you got a nice scoop.

man this game is expensive.  For the price of $9,999.99 I think I will pass on this game.  I hope Capcom reconsiders the price they have listed.

Please remember that if your pre-tax, pre-shipping total is over $40.00 - you get free UPS Ground, in the Continental US.

woo-hoo!  i get free ground shipping on this game.  )

i already have megaman 2 and 3 on gameboy, although i'll admit to not touching either one for the past 10 years.  are the other games any good?  four and five are particulary tough to get (or so i hear).  are they really good or were not a lot manufactured?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

From what I hear, there weren't a lot of copies of IV and V manufactured.  Which is a shame, especially for V - it doesn't rely on NES bosses at all, they're all completely new.  It had Super Game Boy support as well, if I remember rightly.  What's disappointed me, though, is that Capcom hasn't decided to use the GBA's extra screen width to give us more screen space.  One reason the GB Mega Man games seem to be so difficult is because of their limited screen size.
