EYETOY Game Idea Competition
« on: December 14, 2003, 05:02:32 PM »
Recently on IGN they provided a link to the Eyetoy competition now in process.
So I goto PSEurope website the link provides and read about it, and basically
you provide a mock-up illustration of your idea for a new Eyetoy game with a short explanation.  They claim it is a World Exclusive contest, however in the fine print the contest is actually only open to about 8 countries in Europe...
Oh how this pi$$ed me off because I had two great ideas:
#1 a lightgun shooting game where you have your trusty lightgun and the eyetoy serves as a detection device for the player.  If you're not on the eyetoy camera at all, the enemies wont come out and shoot, but once u appear they will come out of hiding and shoot at you while you attempt to shoot them.  Basically it's a virtual Time Crisis game...
You can just imagine the people playing; jumping, ducking, and rolling around crazily all the while screaming and shooting in excitement.
#2 a ping-pong game, you have your end of the table on screen and it is just like the view of a tennis court in regular tennis games, ala linear perspective.  So you see the computer player (think of Super Punch Out type characters) at the other end of the table and you play by swinging your paddle back and forth just like real life ping pong.  It would be 3d much like Marios Tennis on Virtual Boy, and the view of you would not appear on the screen.  (same goes for idea #1, youre not seen on the tv)

So basically I am just upset that I can not even enter the contest.  If my ideas were online games, they would be sweet...  So now I open up to this to the fellow americans, australians, and other non europeans on the forum, what would your idea be?  (arg now you can use my idea for inspiration.. arggg)  Also I don't believe Eyetoy can live on if they never go beyond mini-games and showing you on the screen...  (note my ideas could be mini games or full blown games)  now keep the ideas coming, p.s. im having my ideas copyrighted.

... i dont really like those idea's... and im sure you weren't the first person in the world to think of them. (copyrighted? lol)

Uh yeah, i think a pinball game would be cool, where your hands act as the flippers. Or a game where stuff is falling on you and you have to use your hands to protect your head from the stuff thats falling on you. Or how about this, a shooting game, where you hold your right hand in the shape of a gun, and use your other hand to 'press a button', and when you press that button a bullet flies out of where your right hand is, and you have to destroy enemies on the screen or something. There are lots of possibilities, but i cant be bothered thinking of more right now.

Oh, and this is giving Sony more ideas. Sony = bad.

I've been having ideas about that sort of shooting game for a LONG time. Eye Toy, while very limited, presents very good ideas. Thing is, with something like that, it's only really of use when you have a BIG tv. And as with this, the BIGGER, the better. And the further the camera is away from you, the better also, but not too far

I like the ping pong one alot that would be pretty cool.   What would make it even cooler is if you could connect it to the internet and play ping pong against someone else.  I think any of the game ideas should veer away from those remote control type ones you just plug into the tv and play, like, snowboard, baseball, etc because there already made on things like that.  A really really cool game woul dbe a mechwarrior type game where your like in a mech and the control panel is in the mech and you can control everything with your hands.  That may be out of reach of the PS2 eyetoy ive never really done anything with it before besides looked at the box at a store.

i don't understand why holding your hand in the shape of a gun for hours each time you play the game would be more fun than a real light gun...  or how a game where you put your hands over your head to block "stuff" falling on you would be fun at all, or using your fingers to make tiny flipper triggers could be fun, all of those would ideas would be alot more fun with a controller.  If my shooting game idea's been thought of, why hasn't Namco worked on a virtual Time Crisis instead of continuing the old TC formula which noone is buying anymore.  You see I like my ideas because they're innovative, nothing like them has been done yet, whereas the ideas your presented don't differ much from the games already out.

I've played two games exactly like what your talking about in arcades. Both of them were only OK because the sensor things weren't perfectly accurate. In the light gun game i was ducking and i still got shot, and the ping-pong the game said i kept mising even though i thought i hit the "ball" perfectly. So, i guess someone stole your 'copyrighted' ideas even though i played those games like 2 years ago.

nice of you to make up complete B$ because you hold contempt against me for a post I made towards you weeks ago.  where do you get off making up things like that?

besides even IF such games in the arcades existed, my copyrights are for a home console and the eyetoy, which is not connected to arcades. (copyrights for arcades and home consoles are not one in the same) so your point is completely negated... nice try

First of all, I'm not making anything up. I've played the ping-pong game at The ESPN Zone in NYC, and the shooting one at an arcade thing by my house. Second of all, what do mean a post you made toward me? If you said something to me i honestly don't remember it or never even saw it. I wasn't trying to be mean or anything, i was just simply telling you that i have played games like that. Calm down.

Edit: got to http://www.g-g-e.com/videogames-shooting.html and scroll down to look at Police 911. Thats the light gun game i was talking about. i'm still looking for online for the ping-pong one

Uhh, your ideas arent copyrighted, there only certain things that can be copyrighted for free and that is not one of them.  It has to do with art, literature etc.   You would need to get a patent...

ib2cool i thought you were trying to be mean when you said,
"So, i guess someone stole your 'copyrighted' ideas even though i played those games like 2 years ago." (your harsh sarcasm towards me)

ofcourse they're not copyrighted, i said that so some european wouldn't take my idea and use it in the contest, incase another contest ever came here later on.
but since everyone ridicules me because i said that, i really don't care anymore about the chance for recognition in the design of the game and the many prizes.

Online dancing game where a third party judges the winner.

A driving game where your main objective is to moon people.

Super hero game where you catch bullets.

Bullet time game where you dodge bullets.

Disco game, gotta disco to the funky beat or you lose. Do the robot for bonus points.

Quarterback challenge. But in a video game.

Vodka. You drink a bottle of vodka, then try to walk straight.

Duck hunt, but in reverse.

Jumping jacks. Do em fatty, and get some points.

Youre an idiot. The object of the game is to play a regular eyetoy game without looking like an idiot.

Red light green light. Disco when the green light is up, stop when there is red.

Dodge ball. Throw an imaginary dodgeball, then dodge the imaginary dodgeball.

Tether ball. Look ma, im pretending to play a sport! Because im lazy as hell!

Chearleading. Give me a G! Gimme an E! Gimme another E! Gimme a K! Whooooooo!

Zits. Pop imaginary zits, win the prize. You know, real zits.

Baseball.

Eat your cat.

Red light green light, but with jacking off.

Beat the bum with a baseball bat.

Pie eating contest.

Ninjtasticness. Sneak around your living room like a ninja. If you suck at it, you get shot.

Poker. You play poker and the game can detect if you are lying, so you gotta keep up a poker face.

Hmm, it seems as though I am a ****ing genius.
So you say I cant submit my ideas to win something? Well **** that.
**** that alot.
