I didn't the get the Game Boy Player, due to my cheapness, as well as practicality(I have an SP, why get another device?). But this Game Port has piqued my interest.

Has the PGC staff had a chance to review it? If it gets good reviews, I may as well purchase it and make my 'Cube complete (Save for the Broad band adapter, but that's another story...).

They just released it so I doubt it, and it isn't like it was known release.

I seriously doubt that Datel could have outdone Nintendo in terms of quality or compatibilty. I wouldn't trust a non-Nintendo GBP, but that's just me.

Yeah, I want this one, but I'm waiting for someone to post his impressions first. Does it come with a mini-dvd to boot from?

No documentation I've found suggests this product can play GB or GBC games.  I'm curious to find out just how good of a GBA emulator this product is...

From what I've heard, it is an emulator.  It's only capable of playing GBA games.  They say the sound emulation is quite off in several games that were tested.  I'm not too sure about multiplayer though, but I don't believe there's an extension port on it either.   Oh yeah, it does come with a boot disk too which in this case is probably where the emulator is. The screen is set in only one size which the equivalent of the GBPlayer's regular screen size.  Overall if you don't mind playing imperfect emulations of the games and you only concerned about seeing what's on screen then this would be fine, otherwise, I'd take the GBPlayer by far.

I dont think it'll use the GBP specific features like the rumble mode. THis sounds like a rip off.

The Gameboy Player is absolutely perfect so I don't really see why anyone would settle for something else even if it was cheaper.  Just that fact that it can't play GB and GBC games is already a huge flaw.  The only complaints I've ever heard for the GB Player are stupid unrealistic ones like "how come I can't use it to unlock GBA linkup content?" and "how come I can't play split screen multiplayer?"

I figure Datel was already working on this before the GB Player was announced and decided that since they already had done all the work they might as well release it anyway.  The demand for such a product was huge this time last year with no solution seemingly in sight.

Not playing old Gameboy games makes it a piece of crap in my opinion...why the heck couldn't they add that feature?

My question is, since when does Nintendo let other companies make generic knock offs of their systems?  Seeing as that is basically what this is...seems like there should be a legal battle somewhere...

Well this is using emulation which should be legal.  If they actually recreated the GBA hardware then they would probably be in trouble.  Of course Bleem! created a bit of a stir but that was emulating a different company's console so I can see why someone would freak.  Since all this does is encourage the selling of GBA games I don't think Nintendo will have a probably with it.

If you think about though it's probably not illegal for Nintendo to create an adapter for the Cube that plays PS2 games using emulation.  Sony would obviously sue them and would probably win because they're a bigger company but I don't think technically it would be illegal.  I'm not a lawyer though so don't tear me apart if I'm wrong.

Err... Ian, I'd guess Sony's disks are in some way copy protected (even rudimentary, barely working systems count) and thus reading them is a violation of the DMCA.

The GameBoy Advance doesn't actually play GameBoy Color (or black-and-white) games.

There's a little spring-loaded switch inside a GBA's cart slot, and GBA games have a notch in them so they can't come in contact with it. When that switch is pressed, the GBA becomes a GameBoy Color (although it's a slightly newer model, so it can access things like the so-called "Advance" store in the Zelda Oracle games).
