Need help with my car CD player settings.
« on: November 29, 2003, 07:38:32 PM »
Okay, I got a new car stereo system a couple months ago but there's some settings on the CD player that I have no clue what they are for but I have a feeling they are important. First of all I figured if anyone knows anything about this stuff they might want to know what I have so here goes.  CD Player,  Front Speakers,  Rear Speakers, and  Amp.

Now the first question is what is the Bass Frequency and how will this effect the sound? The settings I have to choose from for this are 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, and 200Hz. Also wouldn't mind someone suggesting which would be best for my system if possible. The next thing is the Bass Band Width (Q-Factor). I can change this from narrow to wide but I have no clue what it actually does. Finally I need to know what the Treble Frequency is. I can choose from 10kHz, 12.5kHz, 15kHz, and 17.5kHz so any suggestion for what I should go with for this would be nice too.

Now I'm not sure about this cause i ain't a car person, but judging from what i have seen from my mate's car sound system, I think Bass Frequency is the strength (don't know the correct word) of your bass. The higher, the more 'oomph' it has, and the longer the 'oomph' goes for (I think). And you can feel it cause it'll be like a replacement of your heartbeat .
I don't know what the best for your system, cause i dunno, but I'm guessing it's more of a personal preference to how powerful you want the bass.
Treble makes how clear or muffled your audio is. Dunno if this is the same, but thats what Treble is basically. The lower it is, the more muffled the sound. The higher, the more clearer it is (and any hiss sound, like s's, cymbals, etc, will be more defined, so it might pierce your ears )

As for the others, why not have a look about it yourself on google or something?

Hope that helped a bit
Someone else who knows about this should post something, instead of secretly laughing at my lack of knowledge

The bass being lower might cause some distortion through your speakers.  Usually, i just fiddle with the settings until it sounds the way i like.  Get your favorite CD and measure the sound by it.  You don't want the treble too high, because it'll sound a little tinny.  When you get it sounding the way you like, leave it.  Fiddling around can't hurt.

Thanks for the help. My main problem is that I really can't hear any difference when I change the settings. Also whenever I've tried doing a search on those terms with google I just get links to Alpine products.
