I think there actually is a good reason for Namco giving us so much support, at least with RPG's. Square owns PS2 RPG's. It would be hard to compete. On Gamecube, they can come in, give us some kick ass RPGs and have them sell great because they have no other competition.

"I only wish Nintendo and Square were as close"

F*ck square lol , their but a shadow of their old self and only now since the merger with Enix have they taken a step back in the right direction IMO.  Besides, since we have namco and Monolith contributin to nintendo, what more do we want.  Zenogears was my fav square rpg since ff3 and crono trigger and we both know who was responsible for that game and now we that said developer on our side along with a few key heads from the crono trigger and cross team to boot.  I wouldnt mind havin square back so they can supply these fluffer rpgs to hold us up till the true rpgs come out like ToS and BK(which the more I hear and see of it , the more I want it)  As for BK not sellin well here or in japan, I found that hard to believe.  Here in the US it might not sell as much as I would like but in japan its goin to sell like hotcakes just by word of mouth.   They eat rpgs up in japan and who in their right minds will pass up that 5 star dish.

Well basically Namco got burned by the PS2 at launch. Their titles didn't sell as well as expected and they posted their first fiscal loss in ten years. They lost 55 million dollars and few months later announced the Gamecube as their target platform. Sony attempted some damage control and was able to "convince" Namco not to bring Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken 4 to GC. By convince, I mean pay off : ) All the same Namco realized the danger of being confined to one platform and thats when they and Nintendo repaired their frost relationship and Namco announced about a half dozen exclusive GC titles. They've also sprinkled a few titles on X-box. All in all, there deal with Nintendo seems to be working out quite well for them.

Baten Kaitos isn't even in the top 30 Japanese most wanted games list.  Five star dish??? There's no proof yet.

I know there is no proof yet but odds are highly favoring it given who's behind the project.  Monolith has yet to dissapoint in an rpg and I dont see how they goin to start now given that they are goin to be gettin even more help from other veterans in the feild besides themselves.  I hold monolith in higher regards than squaresoft in this generation but thats just my opinion.  Also, I'll like to see this japanese 30 most wanted list that you speak of.  BK has been in developement for 2 yrs or so and just recently has it been unvieled and still little is known bout it.  That top 30 most wanted list in japan only holds any weight in this arguement dependin on what time it was made.  If that list was made not to long ago then you have to take in account that most people might not have heard about BK or didnt know much bout it to really get much interest in it.  It all depends on what timeframe that list was made though.

Gup: Well, Mario was on the top 30 list in Japan and it didn't sell near as well as expected. I do see your point, though, I just hope you're wrong.
